This is because the tariffs make the offshore production more expensive, correct? And now that the price point for the good will be higher they will pay the inflated American wages, correct?

How much more are we paying on on these products cause of tariffs?

Or they havent kicked in yet?

I'll bet from head to toe you're not dressed in a single thing made in the US unless it's a small piece of jewelry.

He;s probably unaware that half of his US manufactured vehicle was produced abroad too.

SFP has covered this ad nauseum, but the reasons change daily. If bringing manufacturing back here is the goal, how long will that take? Won't it result in higher prices here? How many decent paying jobs will that bring? Like Roger says, if we're just manufacturing rubber dog shite, I don't think those factory workers are going to be raising three kids on that wage.

When you have half a dozen possible goals, you're never wrong.

We dont compete with low level mfg abroad.
We were incapable of exporting cars to Japan or the EU over the past 3/4ths of a century? Really?

We couldn't compete in terms of beef and ag exports? Really?

Unrestricted large machinery and locomotives from the U.S. had no available overseas market? Really?

See? To me, it appears you are misinformed on this topic.

Always exceptions

I'm not even talking about things you probably can't realistically get, like a smartphone made entirely in the US. I'm talking about things made here, today, and they're small niche companies because we buy based on price. People can buy clothes right now that are made in the US. They don't. "Buy American" is something we like to say, we don't actually want to do it.

What's funny is that trying to get one to come down on a side just caused a different person to jump in to correct it

Tariffs are certainly a malleable, eye of the beholder scenario currently.

I think that's probably a pipe dream, but much of this is over my head. I feel like MAGA world thinks we can tariff our way back to 1950's America. Also, if that high-tech work is automated, what is the point other than tax revenue?

We mfg and export higher value products which have higher profit margins and less global competition

What is the specific percentage of that that you are mentioning I assume you know and I assume that it's less than 5%

Of course they do which is why we still mfg large machinery and high tech products.

Youre starting to learn. We ditched shitty low margin mfg and its a benefit for us.

I heard something the other day that was scary but it also made sense in that we want to bring manufacturing back here because most of it is going to be AI and we want to be in control of all of that

It will not necessarily mean jobs but it will give us control of the AI part of manufacturing
