Leaving bases in Europe would weaken our defenses. It seems to me that most people on this board don't want to see our defense budget shrink, but now want us to leave bases around the world?

French refuse to let us fly over their airspace to retaliate against Libya. That was in 1983. They have not been our ally for over 40 years.

looks like trump wants to become best friends with russia. if that happens, what does europe have to fear from russia? we need a friendship with russia to block china power. being best buddies with europe gets us nothing. they use us.

Why do people say this? Working with Russia does not mean friends with Russia. It makes 0 sense to have a completely crappy relationship with China and Russia, but that doesn’t mean you are their best friends. You can have a respectful relationship or at least attempt it.
