Well, I'm happy to take questions. Honestly, from my years of baking my arse off in the deserts of Arizona and California, a wall does work. It just does.

However, a wall is just one of three needed tiers. You also need 1) legal consequences to illegal border crossers (jail time and deportation) and 2) tighter controls on access to assistance/welfare programs. Without these, illegal aliens will continue to cross in large numbers.

I can't even find where this guy said anything about the wall.

Sounds like the union wasn't happy with an outsider, despite this guy's willingness to go against the narrative of the Obama administration. Anything you can add?

Since Morgan was made head of the Border Patrol last June approximately 85,000 Mexicans have entered the U.S. illegally. So, I'm not so sure the guy is an "expert" on keeping Mexicans from entering illegally.

Yawn

First, read the thread. I know nothing of Morgan or his abilities.

Second, and I imagine our resident CBP poster can attest to this, blaming a career LEO in charge of an agency during the term of an activist President who doesn't really want you to do your job well probably isn't fair.

These are the same people that 7 days in think Trump knows all about being President and can do no wrong.

Are we really going to act like the people who have been securing the border for the last 8 years have a good hold on how to do it?

Because he stated yesterday that he didn't think the country needed a full wall.
Trump has said the same exact thing. So I doubt he was canned over that.

ETA: I also find it funny that this board is calling him stupid for repeating Trump's own words.

Libs, this is another issue where it's not POTUS Trump unilaterally making a policy decision. He has said from Day One that he takes advice from the experts, discusses it with his staff, and then makes an informed decision. You may disagree with it, but it is an informed one. So, yea, in this case, I have no doubt he knew exactly what he was doing to who.

If he was calling the shots (spoiler alert: he wasn't), yes.

Morgan went on record agreeing with Obama's immigration free pass policy. That's what got him his political appointment.

Well let's face it that's most likely why the guy was hired into that position last summer.

Time for the Obama acolyte to move along.

I'm not a lib.

But I take no issue with Trump pushing people out he can't work with. I take issue (relatively, in message board world) with people who assume the removed guy (lifelong public servant) totally sucks because he doesn't agree with something Trump wants to do.

He said he agreed with comprehensive immigration reform, not wholesale amnesty. And he spoke out against Obama regarding enforcement and minors.

Is the border patrol doing a good job in your estimation? While you're at it, did the department of state do a good job over the last 8 years in your estimation?

That's a dog whistle just like common sense gun control measures and pro-choice.

The patrol agents are not the problem. The suits in DC, on orders from the White House, have transformed agency mission from law enforcement to baby sitting.

I really don't know. I can tell you from working with CBP, in immigration, and having a family member as border patrol agent that complaints regarding the inability (manpower, other resources, etc.) go back way before Obama's administration. I do not know how to gauge their performance against prior years, particularly in light of the fact that the prior administration probably disagreed with agents as well as some senior folks.

No. But State is an organically liberal agency in many respects, and again, that isn't just an Obama thing. But I think it got worse under Obama and I'm not opposed to seeing big changes. I do think it's silly that some people appear to want every policy expert who disagrees with the President to leave.

I agree with comprehensive immigration reform that includes giving CBP whatever they want to get the job done. So I don't think it equates to "common sense gun control."

Unless you think anyone who doesn't support total deportation fits that description.
