HUNG CAO CAME OUT OF SAIGON IN 1971
He was a refugee child when the city fell, and his first taste of freedom was Guam. Naval Academy, then thirty two years in uniform to captain, with Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia behind him. Lost a House race in 2022 and a Senate race in 2024. Sworn in as Under Secretary last October, acting Secretary since April, now nominated to run the whole thing.
He came from nothing and now he is running the Navy.

Hung Cao — Vietnamese refugee, EOD officer, 25-year combat vet — is now Secretary of the Navy. He didn't come from a Goldman Sachs donor list. He came from underwater demolitions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia. The same guy who said we need sailors who "rip out their own guts and ask for seconds" is now running the fleet. From banker bureaucrats to actual warfighters. The Navy finally has a captain at the helm, not a consultant.

With the Iran war being largely a Naval exercise so far, I like having a hard arse leader in place. Hopefully he has the right skills for this role.
