Short version -

Dems can't cheat anymore.

That's somehow racist and an attack on our duh-mocracy!

Elections are state issues.

They are and they aren't.

The Constitution has been ratified in a number of ways that has changed what Federal Elections were supposed to look like.

And since secession has been outlawed and all states are now subject to the rule of other states, states should be allowed to know if things are being done legally in other states. Pre-Civil War and pre-14th Ammendment the view would have been different. Each state can do as they wish. Not so much the case anymore, red states are now violently forced to remain in the same country with degenerate states like California.

Real progress would be doing the exact opposite like in Estonia

Keep the eorotrash in Europe.

progress

The definition of this word has been disgustingly twisted. "Progress" is typically labeled as a good thing, and it's disturbing. Changing something that works perfectly just to "keep up with the times" can be more detrimental than beneficial.

And you just outlined why this will never be allowed in the USA.

Congress ought to (of course they won't) mandate paper ballots, hand counted, no mail in etc for federal offices.

Study after study has shown that hand counting is LESS ACCURATE, more time consuming, and more expensive than counting by machine. Humans are notoriously bad at completing mundane, repetitive tasks, particularly for long hours.

If the 2000 election taught us anything at all, it is the margin of error for human counting is too high to rely on. Human error in hand recounts is generally somewhere around 0.3%. In states with close elections that may come down to 1,000 votes or less, that margin is unacceptable.

mail isnt counted before so no one is influenced by (selective leaks) partial result. then you get clown-experts saying its "impossible" to catch up.

Most states allow processing of mail in votes to begin before election day. That is, opening outer envelopes, verifying signatures, and getting ballots ready to count.

Several states also allow counting to begin before election day, and they make it a felony to leak any information before the polls close on election day. I've never heard of leaks occurring.

Who will enact that goal? It won’t be him, he’s political poison and wholly unelectable.

I think most conservatives and ethical people think there should be ... at a minimum ... a paper trail. I'm not opposed to scanned voting machines where they check Drivers License AND have the ability to physically count every vote.

With paper ballots only, how long would it take to count?

Then, if there is an area that has a unusual number of spoiled or fraudulent ballots, those ballots can be tracked back to the source of the ballots, the machine that counted it, and the people that were involved with that ballot from print to count to recording.

What happens, if your paper ballots are filled out by a bunch of Floridians from 2000 that are not filled out correctly such as partially filling box, marking multiple boxes, putting a check mark instead of filling in the box or bubble, or heaven forbid we bring back punch cards and have another dimpled/pregnant chad fiasco again.
