The Republican party has gotten more liberal.

If you are talking about the the voters, I totally disagree. The politicians at the top for certain have.

quote:

That's consistent with the move left that's taken place nationwide

Again, if you are talking about the people, that hasn't happened either. The fringes have moved, but it's not been a population shift.

quote:

It's posted in these threads all the time that Kennedy would be considered right of Center today.

I don't think you understand that commentary. They are saying that Democrat politicians (and perhaps the Democrat base) has moved left. They aren't saying that Republicans have moved lefet of where JFK was.

quote:

DeSantis supporters don't believe the way you fight the ruling class/administrative state/uniparty is by boosting funding for the administrative state and giving more power to the ruling class. And, in practice (as opposed to rhetoric), Trump supporters apparently believe the opposite.

Would you vote for Pence? He's very conservative. And, he'd do absolutely nothing about the ruling class et al.

But, if you are saying that you have the same goals and objectives as MAGA voters but just differ on the best way to get it done, I guess that's a good thing.

quote:

Well, it's just your rationalization for supporting a guy that can't give the establishment enough money/power that has you believing RDS supporters made that choice based on conservatism. It's just a bonus with DeSantis that he's also the more conservative option.

Unfortunately Desantis is owned by that establishment. I think that will become apparent over the next month or two as he stays in the race against all clear indications that he can't win.

It would be interesting to hear him talk about that on the debate stage. Hopefully he participates in one to address how it was different than when Obama was President, or Biden now. I'd like to hear his position on that.

Im not giving him a pass, but you do realize his circumstances were quite different, right?

The people on here trying to pass him off as some kind of bastion of conservatism are probably the biggest retards on this board.

Well if he’s such a liberal, maybe that might help with independents.

Trump is no fiscal conservative. I supported him for America first, strong national defense and LEO’s. Plus he pisses off the left and the Carl Rove RINOS. See them on this board everyday. Little whiny bitches.

So you're argument is Republican voters are retarded? While I think they've been dumbed down, I also think there's a shite ton of evidence that they've also gotten more liberal. You're a prime example - you describe yourself as a staunch conservative, but you're supporting in the primary a guy that spends like a Dem, is soft on 2A, has advocated for a wealth tax and has progressive plans/ideas about FICA/SS, etc. I don't think the Republican electorate that put Reagan in office would support Trump like the Republican party today is.

quote:

I don't think you understand that commentary. They are saying that Democrat politicians (and perhaps the Democrat base) has moved left. They aren't saying that Republicans have moved lefet of where JFK was.

It's not either or.

Flip to the other side - are you suggesting the rank/file Dems today aren't more liberal than Dems 50 years ago?

quote:

Would you vote for Pence? He's very conservative. And, he'd do absolutely nothing about the ruling class et al.

Did you understand the plain English I posted? I very clearly explained that I (most RDS supporters) aren't supporting DeSantis solely or even mostly because of his conservatism. They're supporting DeSantis because they disagree with you that the way to push back on the establishment/permanent Washington isn't go give it more money and power like Trump did in his first term.

quote:

Unfortunately Desantis is owned by that establishment.

There is zero evidence of this and your guy made the establishment bigger, richer and more powerful.

quote:

I think that will become apparent over the next month or two as he stays in the race against all clear indications that he can't win.

And this is how you are convince (or convince yourself) of stupid shite. There are myriad reasons for DeSantis to stay in the race that have nothing to do with the establishment.

The man is a conman and people are either too caught up in the hype or don’t want to accept it. It’s who he’s always been. But hey the dude knows how to manipulate people and light them up which is how he made a good chunk of his money

It's pretty common knowledge that trump is a 00s Democrat. Why does it keep getting posted here every couple of weeks as if it's some sort of unknown catastrophic "gotcha"?

I'm a 00s Democrat. I only switched because the Democrat party abandoned most of their policies and started pushing crazy shite.
