Ukraine supporters are all Bush era neocons and liberal covid trash. And they’re all standing around wondering why we don’t want to get heavily involved in Ukraine.

The only reason MAGA neocons (who were all once Bush era neocons) were able to cheer a war in Iran is because Russia is bogged down in a quagmire in Ukraine

It's hilarious that the guy that attacked Iran and doesn't care that it's driving up global fuel prices is calling out the guy that was attacked and retaliated against Russia by targeting refineries saying he doesn't care that it's driving up global fuel prices.

If it weren’t so sad and depressing it would truly be hilarious.

Clinton said Putin kept his word in every deal they did with him. Maybe we should stop antagonizing Russia with pushing nato east.

I don’t care about Ukraine at all.

You people get not caring about Ukraine confused with somehow supporting Russia

Pointing out a lack of evidence supporting a point is apparently meme-worthy to the MAGA crowd

I am with most of this board in that I can't stand the Ukraine bros, think the country was a den of corruption/giant CIA base and the conflict was very much provoked
Of course. But none of that makes Russia a trusted ally. There are no good guys in that conflict. Which is precisely why we should have never gotten involved in the first place.

I never understood this talking point. Who the frick cares what Russia wants? The reason countries wanted in NATO is because of Russian aggression. Even if you buy this bullshite talking point, so what. We’re America, why let a fricking illiberal autocrat dictate how we operate?

Prior to the invasion of Ukraine, when was the last eastward expansion of NATO?

You think Putin invaded Ukraine over North Macedonia and Montenegro?

*ETA: neither North Macedonia nor Montenegro expanded NATO eastward, mind you.

But we did. And now Trump is left to try and clean it up. I mean, we could just walk away from it, but we have given the Ukrainians like eleventy billion dollars at this point and are sort of invested.

That's an example of the sunk cost fallacy

That's the way these things work whether you like the logic or not.

quote:

Despite assurances to the contrary, NATO is not a ‘defensive organization’. Even though American memories are short, people elsewhere remember the bombing campaign against Serbia, and the removal of Gaddafi from power in Libya. What NATO is in fact is the military arm of US hegemony, a hegemony that has seen it expand eastwards through Europe, right up to Russia’s very own borders.

“Don’t individual states reserve the right to enter into alliances with those they see fit, Niccolo?” Of course they do. But not all countries are islands, and most countries have neighbours. And not all neighbouring states are created equal, and they have their own national security concerns and interests. This is the case with Russia.

Russia has been invaded several times from the west since Napoleon first crossed the border to enter Imperial Russian soil in 1812. Every time since, western powers have been forced out, but have left behind devastation in their wake. This explains why Russia has sought buffers to its west ever since, with the largest buffer being its puppet regimes in eastern and central Europe during the Cold War.

NATO, originally set up to counter the USSR’s expansion into Europe, was left without a raison d’etre after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the USSR. Nevertheless, it pressed on eastwards, and thanks to the CIA and MI6, effected Colour Revolutions to put into power friendly regimes that sought NATO membership in places like Tbilisi and Kiev. Where Colour Revolutions weren’t necessary due to historical grievances against Russia, NATO missile systems pointed at Russia have been set up (Romania and Poland).

For Russia, the nightmare scenario of dismemberment from the west is now tangible. You may disagree with their perspective, but what is important is HOW they view the situation. If you can’t understand their views, it is therefore impossible to talk to them, unless you are only willing to lecture to them or threaten them.

And lectures on democracy and threats to their economy and existence are all that have come out of the west towards Russia recently.

They already had NATO nations on their border, invading Ukraine added more. If the US wanted to attack Russia, Ukraine being in NATO would not make a damn bit a difference and Putin is smart enough to understand this.

Perhaps more importantly, Russia is doing very little, if anything, to help the Islamic Republic of Iran, compared to what they could be doing,

Zelensky really is an incredible man. Because of Ukrainian resistance diminishing Russian capabilities abroad:

1. Assad fell in Syria and Syria is in the process of transition to a democracy, and
2. the Islamic Republic is on the ropes in Iran.

If Ukraine can outlast Putin we should put Zelensky on mt Rushmore for achieving 50 years of American foreign policy objectives for us.
