quote:

According to the complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Lasata discriminated against Ms. Williams by failing to accommodate her religious beliefs when she sought an exemption to Lasata’s requirement of a flu vaccine. The complaint alleges that Lasata’s policy at the time required a flu vaccine but provided a religious exemption for employees who could produce a written statement from their clergy leader supporting the request. Ms. Williams requested a religious exemption from the flu shot requirement because of her sincerely held religious belief that Bible-based scriptures prohibited flu shots. Ms. Williams could not provide the requested clergy letter, however, because she did not belong to a church or an organized religion. When Lasata denied Ms. Williams’ request for a religious exemption, she submitted to the flu shot, despite her religious objections, because she was told that her refusal would result in her termination.

The article follows the revision of NHS’s guidance to offer advice on dealing with cultural issues associated with workwear.

According to the party, female Muslim staff will now be exempt from the rule that all staff should be scrubbed and bare below the elbow. It notes that long sleeves have been identified as one of the leading causes of the spread of bacteria responsible for the superbugs and describes the alternative of disposable sleeves as “utterly pathetic”.

The party says “the open display of anti-British bias will now put patients in hospitals at even greater risk of infection by the ‘superbug’ epidemic which has directly paralleled the increasing numbers of ethnic NHS staff.”

quote:

These guidelines were developed in consultation with Muslim Spiritual Care Provision in the NHS, a joint project between the Department of Health and the Muslim Council of Britain.

Its recommendations – most of which have been adopted in the guidance – makes it clear that hand disinfection gels containing synthetic alcohol comply with Islamic prohibition laws.

Just curious, do you support her suit or the idea that her religion should allow her to be exempt from company policy?

Since you quoted the discrimination suit, I assume you agree that having to have a clergy member confirm her beliefs is the problem. Personally I think the exemption they have written into policy is the problem.

I don't think there should be any religious exemptions in hospitals. makes no sense why you should be able to put others in danger.

Recent data indicates the only thing putting people in danger is 1) the flu shot and 2) people not wearing facemasks in medical facilities.

Yes

Perhaps. That said, I think the exemption should exist.

Assuming this is accurate, shouldn't THIS be the basis for any objection or change to the rules, rather than a religious belief?

Interesting. I think exemptions to public safety should be based on something other than an individuals religious belief.

So despite all of this she wanted a religious exemption?

I frankly think that the Flu Shot barely qualifies if at all.

The whole "public safety" thing can be an awfully big umbrella to those who want it to be.

Also....remind us again how the government doesn't have any NDAs!
