Occam's razor. It works every time.
Why is the DOJ intervening in this?

The suit alleges that Lasata’s policy permitting only employees who could obtain a letter from a clergy member to receive a religious accommodation violated Title VII. The policy on its face denied religious accommodations to employees, like Ms. Williams, who do not belong to churches with clergy leaders. The United States’ complaint also alleges that Lasata unlawfully denied Williams a reasonable accommodation of her religious objection to the flu shot by denying her a request for an exemption without the requisite showing that doing so would cause an undue hardship. Through this lawsuit, the United States is seeking compensatory damages for Ms. Williams, in addition to injunctive and other appropriate relief.
Like usual, it is important to know the details. This was a nursing home employee who didn't want a flu shot. The nursing home allowed employees to get out of it if their preacher wrote a letter. She didn't have a preacher.
Much ado about nothing.

I frankly think that the Flu Shot barely qualifies if at all. The whole "public safety" thing can be an awfully big umbrella to those who want it to be.

Ms. Williams requested a religious exemption from the flu shot requirement because of her sincerely held religious belief that Bible-based scriptures prohibited flu shots
Flu virus and vaccines weren’t around 2000 fricking years ago. My word people are stupid. People act like God doesn’t want us to take care of ourselves.

First, explain your position. Are you asserting the flu shot comes with zero risk of adverse effects?
Posted on 3/21/18 at 1:01 pm to BBONDS25
other than the chance of mild flu like symptoms the night of no I don't believe they are a credible risk to people.
Posted on 3/21/18 at 1:02 pm to Usafgiles
So there are negative side effects?
Posted on 3/21/18 at 1:04 pm to CommoDawg
Not sure why this is "thread worthy".
Posted on 3/21/18 at 1:18 pm to BBONDS25
not any that would warrant not getting a flu shot.

I just can't see a religious exception to someone who works in public health not getting a flu shot.
Also, I would like to see a letter from one of the pastors saying why it would be against their religion.

According to whom? You are in favor of employers making these decisions mandatory ? I bet you were one of those guys whining about arbitration clauses. I bet you are one of those guys that says what a woman does with her body is her choice.
The suit is whether the requirement for a. Letter from clergy violates title vII. This little excercise just points out hypocrisy.

I tend to agree, I think. However the exception being granted via letter from clergy is probably what fouled the whole deal up for them.

Perhaps. That said, I think the exemption should exist.
You know how many "crazy" religions exits in this country? This opens up a Grand-Canyon-sized can of worms.
And is the exemption to be granted no matter the reasonableness of the company policy?
