Yes. I’d rather we govern our own country effectively and not try and nation build in the Middle East.

That’s a perfectly fine stance to take under normal circumstances and one that I would agree with. But given the current circumstances that isn’t really a choice. Either we plan for needing troops or we don’t and shite happens if we need them and don’t have them ready to go. So again, would you rather his planning on needing them or not? We don’t get to walk this back 4 weeks and armchair general this thing.

I don't know how old you are but it was obvious that we were at war with Iran since 1979. When the supporters of the regime are constantly screaming "Death to the USA!" and burning the American flag then you better believe Iran is at war with us.

Please cite any article or Trump statement referencing active war with Iran from 1980 to February 2026.

I await.

Someone already pointed out that the US & UK overthrowing Mossadegh is the reason the revolution happened in 79.

Then we secretly sold weapons to Iran during Iran-Contra.

Then we backed Hussein in the Iran-Iraq war.

And most egregiously… to ignore the timeline from 2016-2020 with respect to this escalation is ridiculous.

Netanyahu has been framing Iran as an existential threat and pushing for conflict for decades. For the first time in 35 years we were making in-roads with Iran. Bibi did not like that one bit. We let him come cry to Congress & the rest is history.

Yeah? Some of you live in an alternate reality.

Reporting on official pronouncements and actual deployments is reality. Speculation about what is being considered or thought about or possible is conjecture. News organizations should stick to reality. Commentators or influencers engage in conjecture. That is my concern.

I’d rather pull the plug on the whole thing than put one American soldier on Iranian territory.

Wasn’t that a settlement or something? I don’t know if that contradicts any point I’m making, so sure include it on the 2016-2020 timeline.

We sent 5,000 more troops to the region and might add a few thousand more????? Out of our 2M standing military today?!? No way! We must be preparing for Normandy 2.0!!!! Troops move all the time. Of course we have troops moving over there. And by troops, you do realize that doesn’t mean 5,000 infantry ready to move in that could include replacement personnel for our existing troops, support and mechanical engineers, logistics and flight crews, etc etc. 5,000 troops isn’t even a finger prick

Do you know how Vietnam started?

That is totally fair. My point was only that Reuters is generally about as neutral a source as we have in this era.

I got massively downvoted for stating that this wouldn’t be over in 2 months, much less 2 weeks.
