This is really quite simple in concept. The last legitimately elected president is Trump. Un til the winner of the succeeding legitimate election is inaugurated he is still the president.

Except that even in your "simple" fantasy, even the most basic reading of the Constitution/applicable would not result in Trump remaining President.
There is no principle of law that allows a POTUS to continue serving beyond the limits of his term without being elected via Constitutional process. No matter what, Donald Trump is not, and cannot be the POTUS at present.
