What kind of promotion are you talking about?
Now you are crawfishing
If an elective Bible class promotes Christianity are you ok with an Islam class pormoting Islam in the same school?

Your very first post in the thread advocated for promoting it.
My first post acknowledges that the Bible is a positive influence in people's lives. I stand by that.

You advocated for teaching that to students.

Right wing idiocy: when we let the state teach religion to our children, we let a liberal teacher take over our kids’ religious education. Is that what you want?
Yea. A bible course would be the one to worry about.
Pay no attention to the biology teacher teaching how there can be more than two genders
Pay no attention to the economics teacher who teaches the benefit of socialism and wealth redistribution.
Pay no attention to the civics teacher who rails against the electoral college and what the founding fathers “really intended”.
Pay no attention to the history teacher who rages at the mention of the crusades but glosses over the Muslim conquest of North Africa and the battles in Spain that eventually pushed back the Muslims during reconquista.
Oh no. It’s bible courses where it will go all wrong.

I'm ok with both as long as both are electives.

I simply illustrated the positive benifits of studying the Bible.

Same here
Thank you for clarifying

I have no fear of the Koran being taught as an elective. In fact, I think more people would be shown it's nefarious sides if studied.

I know you won't agree with this.
But I think we should all understand why people believe what they believe and realize that billions of people have been slaughtered throughout history over control by religion that was created to control the common man.

I've heard this theory before and have viewed the Zeitgeist videos, and you are right, I don't buy it.
But not because of what I've been taught or leaned about the Bible, but what I've experienced in my life because of Christianity and what I've seen it do to those I love, like my parents who were born again as a direct result of my witness to them.
I've seen Christianity turn my dad from a self centered grumpy individual to a caring, loving generous man who now puts the needs of others over his own.
He's had a genuine conversion and it's been genuine for about 15 years now.

Some people need religion to be better people.
Some don't.

Nope. I only pointed out the benefits of studying it and mocked the fear associated with it study.

Well, it wasn't words on a page or some 12 step program that changed my dad. He had a genuine work of God in his life and his heart was changed. And frankly, I don't care what others think about his conversion.

Yes you did. You said it was a positive thing and you want it taught to students.

No he didn't.
Someone probably called him out for being an a-hole and it finally clicked.

Listen, the only person closer to my dad than me is my mom and I know what I know.

That's nice.
Your god had nothing to do with the changes your dad made. I don't care how well you know him. The idea of your god? Sure, I'd buy that. Like I said, some people need religion to be decent people.

I am glad that it's being offered to students, and I am convinced it will have positive affect on them if studied, but I never advocated for any mandatory Bible classes being forced on any one.
