Get ready! Rumors it may actually happen. Trump for 1 term (2024-2028) then DeSantis for 8 years (2028-2036)

Correct. Makes no sense for him and I don't see him doing it.

On top of that, which one of them is moving out of Florida?

How come? Trump handles foreign policy, Ron handles domestic policies. Benefit for Ron is that trump can only serve 1 term so as VP that benefits you to win 2 terms

Nah - he gets the foreign policy/lack of experience criticism eliminated. So there’s that.

But turning Florida loose is a bigger risk than any of that criticism.

There is if they (both Trump and DeSantis) really believe that this is what it will take to turn the nation around.

Trump can make his address wherever he wants just like Dick Chaney did.

So tired of hearing this. If DeSantis agrees to it, then there’s clearly a benefit for him because he’s not a stupid person.

Nope.

Desantis needs to sit it out if Trump is running and stick to hardening Florida against them coming back. Once Trump does his term, then he can come in and do 8 years, but he needs to stay clear of getting tied too closely to Trump.

This doesn't make any sense

The argument is that there is no benefit to DeSantis, and hence, he's not going to do it. If he does do it, it could very well be a mistake, and that alone would not be evidence of any objective benefit to DeSantis. Regardless, this is circular, as there is no real suggestion of this being even a remote possibility (likely because it would not benefit Ron at all).

DeSantis is probably the most hyped "traditional" GOP candidate in decades. He has strong popularity among Republicans and a very strong resume as governor of arguably America's most thriving state. What objective benefit is there to run with Trump, who (i) had very few survivors from the top officials of his previous administration, and (ii) whose supporters speak regularly about how his prior VP is treasonous and serves a traitor's fate?

Honest Trump loyalists who want DeSantis as a future option should be reluctant to support the idea. Who among those who previously worked with Trump have a bright political future at this point? You can acknowledge that even if you attribute that reality entirely to the media and not to Trump.

Trump goes to DeSantis and says:

"Hey bro, I have an idea. Come run on my ticket as VP. We smash everyone and cruise into office. I know you want to be President, so Im going to stay for 2 years, then turn the show over to you. Then you can run again twice. If we work together, nobody can stop us."

Do you really believe Trump would delegate in that fashion? To be clear, I'm not sure Ron would agree to be second fiddle anyway, but when has Trump ever shown interest in meaningful collaboration/deference with/to another bright mind over a long period?

And the reality is that most of his supporters don't want him to. They want Trump to be Trump and do what Trump thinks is best. Anything else is Trump fighting his own nature, which I would agree isn't a recipe for success.

Agree...it is questionable if DeSantis can continue the momentum he currently has if he waits and always possible that some of the crap that Trump stirs due to his immaturity may spill on DeSantis.

I would easily vote for either of them as the nominee; however, I think it is a bad decision for DeSantis to either wait his turn or be a part of a Trump ticket.

DeSantis on the ticket makes Trump much more electable...I think they would be unbeatable.

Trump should promise DeSantis he would step down one day after 2 years, so DeSantis could literally walk into being President and then run 2 terms as incumbent.

In my mind there is zero chance DeSantis runs against Trump in a primary without Trump sticking the knives in and some portion of his base refusing to support DeSantis. Likewise, there is zero chance that DeSantis ever has as fertile ground to run on as he appear to have right now.

It's really a calculation of coming at the king and not missing vs. hoping you can have a decent (if not as good) setup to win in 2028 or 2032. I don't feel strongly, both are high risk.

You really think the savviest Republican Presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan will attach himself to the most toxic and radioactive politician in American history?

You can't possibly believe that.
