Yes of course, its a very unique situation no one ever has to deal with, but nurses.

Become a CEO, your problems will be solved. Evidently you do little and make 6 mil a year.

Why don't you work your way up from nurse to CEO and make some meaningful changes?

Because I don’t want to be a CEO and I am approaching retirement.
I do, however, want to be able to have save healthcare when my family or I need it.

Why don’t you become a nurse since you guys seem to know what’s best for us.

Its easy work, according to nurses in this thread. No responsibility and all that money.

Maybe those CEO's just need to create another career field to take even more of the burden off of what you are not willing to do.

I mean RN's have LPN's, CNA's, and PCT's. Nearly all of their job duties use to be done by RN's.

You’ve got that backwards - we did have those. Now we are all of those. Plus housekeeping, lab, security, EKG tech, recptionist, etc

Go work in a private practice

Why are you staying in a place you hate?

Why don’t you work in another field so you don’t have to deal with the union workers that you despise?

I will. I jump jobs every few years.

I find it strange people work in a field which they chose, have opportunities to work elsewhere but want to stay and force their employer to change.

I do the work because it is what I enjoy doing - I just want to do it the correct and safe way.

I also have a consulting and education business which is nationwide. You see, I am one of those “specialty nurses” who has a pretty good income. The only kind of nurse that y’all think has any intelligence. This is not about the money for me.

Also, to this group - your misogynist side keeps showing when you refer to female dominated professions…

Oh dear god, the victimization is strong with this one...

No wonder you want to be in a union.

Never said I want to be in a union or that I would join one.
I just think that hospitals brought this upon themselves. It might be the only way to change their unsafe practices. And I’m not the victim. You and other unsuspecting patients are - I know what to look for and can advocate for myself and my family.

My local hospital is unionized, and is horribly rated. I dont know why you think unionizing will help your situation.

But how do you resolve the Temp issue to fill needed bodies.
It's a catch-22. Employment of locums leads to uncompensated workload dumps on permanent staff, which leads to more attrition, which leads to more temp hiring, and so it goes. Overcoming it will require administrative rethinking, forced or voluntary. Bonusing basis is generally not friendly to the latter.

quote:

The real issue is if you want more pay, quit and become a Temp.
That is happening.

Of course it just worsens things as RNs familiar with one system have a learning curve and little loyalty in another which renders them far less efficient in their new system. Permanent staff in the new system get dumped on and exit as a result.

It is a terrible care model.

yep ... highly inefficient ... stupid administratively ... and what you can't catch, gets transferred to docs, especially in academic settings.

When you protect "less than average" workers, the above average and above get dumped on as a result.

Unions are awesome for people who just want job protections. For anyone with ambition, they hamstring your career.

If the man can pay you less, he will. If he can exploit labor he will. If he can get away with unsafe work conditions, he will. It is what it is. Greed drives the economy, but there must be a bulwark against unfettered capitalism and big business. Unions are one of those ways, particularly at the local level. Another way is for the break up of monopolies. But unfortunately, all of our institutions are corrupt and they are in bed with one another. Unions at the local level are the only hope for working people. The guys in the international labor offices are just as corrupt as any other institution. Government, corporations, churches, universities, school systems, hospitals/healthcare, pharmaceuticals, etc… They’re all corrupt as frick.

Good ole populism. The working mans fantasies.

"Unfettered capitalism" is a leftist dog whistle and a total fabrication. Your defense vs "capitalism" is your own work ethic and sense of enterprise.
