I agree with this. Nursing salaries in Louisiana have been a joke for as long as I can remember and the hours even worse. I know many nurses who moved to Texas because the same job paid at least 50% more or took travel nurse work for 3 times the money.
There isn’t a nursing shortage everywhere. There is a nursing shortage in areas where nurses get terrible pay relative to local cost of living or areas that are especially remote. The healthcare industry would rather pay travel nurses exorbitant sums of money for 3-6 months at a time while working them for 90 hrs/week than pay a reasonable wage for 40 hrs to attract more workers.

The system works like it should. People migrate to where the jobs are higher paying if thats their preference.
AI and automation will cut a lot of jobs in the near future.

why is it Nurse's unionizing for higher wages cause premiums to go up? Hospitals are massive grifts for their services. The cost of a hospital stay in non union hospitals aren't any cheaper than unionized hospitals. Look just own the fact that conservatives hate unions because unions support DEMS. if they supported the GOP i doubt the hate would be the same. Good for these nurses. Somehow in this country we demonize unions but somehow trust corporations to pay and treat people fairly.

Health care is higher in unionized states

New York

Alaska
$13,642
Massachusetts
$13,319
Delaware
$12,899

No, they set them to the point they can hire and retain enough staff to do the work.
If your hospital doesnt meet your needs, go find one that does.
A worker is only as valuable as it costs to replace them.

Is healthcare the outlier? Nothing else is more expensive in those states?

Yes, due to high labor costs
Youre so close...

No what’s comical is you trying to play the “both sides” game when you only care about 1 side.
