Trial of Baton Rouge serial killer Kenneth Gleason begins, state not seeking death penalty
Advocate article
quote:

Gleason, who is White, faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Smart, 49, who was shot dead on a street north of the LSU campus. Prosecutors have won court permission to present evidence that Gleason has made references to Adolf Hitler and cleansing, but they cannot tell jurors that a drawing of a swastika was found in Gleason's cell after his arrest.
quote:

The first-degree murder charge carries a mandatory life sentence if he’s convicted by a unanimous jury; prosecutors opted against seeking the death penalty after speaking to Smart's family. Gleason has pleaded not guilty and has awaited trial in the parish jail for more than three years after being denied bond.
quote:

The trial is expected to last until at least next week, and attorneys spent a full three days selecting jurors.

Doesn't sound like the country would lose too much if he just vanished.

But he killed two people. Does that qualify him as a serial killer?

Only because he's white. I doubt they would call a gangster in the same situation a serial killer

Kind of depends on who you ask, but three is a more common minimum number. Just used the headline from the story.

frick the Advocate such an absolute joke of a publication. They’re like the minor league version of CNN filled with a bunch of untalented, uninteresting liberal bull shite artist liars

Did Derrick Todd Lee's articles play up that he was black and killed a bunch of white women?

Because that's actually newsworthy considering serial killers normally target within their own race.

Nah, I get it. I wasn't trying to trash you.

I see he also shot up (or is suspected of shooting up) a house so he's clearly wacked out.

I mean, this is more spree killer behavior (if Gleason actually did more than one of these) - more akin to what Muhammad & Malvo did in in D.C./NOVA than a traditional serial killer, which is normally a sex/power cross up in a fricked up individual.

Traditional serial killers rarely cross color lines, particularly white serial killers, as well.

It appears the DA's office has a ton of ballistics evidence against this guy, from the crime scene of both homicides that matched ballistics from when he shot up that black families house in the same neighborhood in which he lived with his parents.

I am not sure if BRPD actually possesses the firearm or not, since that part was never disclosed during the investigation.

I’m just happy I got the opportunity to wish him death to his face, and the mildly retarded idiot thanked me.

The article said they never found the gun, but said he had purchased one and received a concealed carry license.
