GRAMBLING, La. (KNOE) - The mother of Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton, visited northeast Louisiana on Thursday. She was the guest speaker at Grambling State University's Women History Month.
Sabrina Fulton speaking at Grambling State University for Women's History Month.
Martin was shot and killed in Florida in 2012. His killer, George Zimmerman, was acquitted of all charges.
"I would not have known how strong I was until my son was shot down," Fulton said. "There was no justice. The person who shot and killed my son is still walking around, so there was no justice."
During her speech, Fulton shared a message of power, hope, and courage. She says she is a strong advocate for higher education.
"Just have dreams and visions to do thing something good in life and become somebody special," Fulton said. "I think that is very important."
She says a lack of justice pushes her to make a change against gun violence across the nation. Fulton expressed she also wants racism to stop.
"You have to know that we live in a country that is judging you by the color of your skin," Fulton said. "Because someone looked at my son as if he was suspicious because he was wearing a hoodie."
Fulton wrapped up her speech by telling students never to let their skin color keep them from chasing their dreams.
"Don't believe just because you wear a hoodie, or you have dreadlocks, or you have gold teeth or tattoos that you look suspicious," she said.

Tragedy what happened to that kid. I feel their family was used by some bad people. The same ones that started everything in Ferguson.

Did she get off into raising your child not to be a burglar. Or attack strangers doing neighborhood watch to guard against burglars. She should have.

Funny how she failed to mention the fact that her tPOS "angel" was bashing the other guy's head on the concrete curb, which made the "murder" a self-defense shooting.
PS - Wonder how much compensation she gets for these motivational speeches?

I bet they gave Trayvon an honorary degree that wasn't accredited

Somebody bashing your head against the curb and you have a gun in your pocket, are you telling us that you wouldn't use it to save your life?
PS - I think I see now why you like Beto so much.

Oh he had a future. Continued burglary til he likely murdered someone in their home. He had already turned violent, witness his slamming the neighborhood watch guy's head against the concrete. Zimmerman was fortunate in that he had a gun to protect himself as the local Sanford police had recommended or he would have probably died.

She must be getting paid.

There are probably more illegal guns on the campus of Gramblins than Trayvon had Skittles.

Urban Meyer is also speaking at Grambling this week. Couple of winners right there.

She should have spoke on how dangerous it is to confront a stranger at night. That and the dangers of hitting a guy, trying to bash his head into the sidewalk, etc... especially if you don't know the guy has a gun he can get to. That dangerous.

That's not how justice works.

Yes it damn well does mean that and this applies to all people of all races. Anyone of any race covered i tattoos with gold teeth and dreadlocks is a suspicious looking person.
