trump is hard to impersonate because he's so unique guy (look, voice, cadence, body language) on top of that, trump kind of parodies himself so a parody of a self parody is kind of, well, dumb.

Trump is one of the easiest people in human history to impersonate. There are lots of people who can do a good impression of him.

Alright, just for the record, the criteria for difficulty in impersonating someone is if the person is:

- Entertaining
- Outrageous
- Has detailed mannerisms / demeanor

Anything else I'm missing?

whereas the fey palin impression or the Ferrell bush impression, they were funny, but they were kind of one trick ponies and you couldn't anything interesting with them like bill Clinton reviewing the movie "the president's wife"

That opener he did with the three way call between Clinton, Lewinsky, and Saddam was great

I forgot about DH's Gore impression. That one was pretty good too.

In general it involves taking what makes them interesting and dialing it up to 11.

Dana Carvey made Bush 41 memorable as a mush mouthed wimp. “Not gonna do it, nagannadoit, wouldn’t be prudent.”

Carvey made H Ross Perot memorable as well the fast talking rich eccentric Texan. Almost like JR Ewing as a politician.

Phil Hartman played up Bill Clinton as a sleazy southern womanizer / fat boy.

It’s hard to do that on someone who is already a caricature of themselves.

There have been good examples of it, though, as Phil Hartman did a good Trump back in the 80s when they did a bunch of skits such as him playing a form of Let’s Make A Deal with Ivana to determine her share of the marital assets.

You said multiple times that it is hard to impersonate / parody Trump for various reasons. That's criteria.

who gives a shite if you're a dead ringer if you're not funny?

I thought it went without saying that you need to be funny, but part of that is the writing too.

quote:

it's called satire, you know where you take something and blow it out of proportion to be funny. you think giliam is funny who gives a shite what you think.

Who the hell is giliam? And that's your opinion, man. You're in the minority if you didn't like him as a cast member. But you like what you like, and it doesn't bother me.

Over Steve Martin? Hell no.

Some of us actually watched those episodes.

Christopher Walken didn't make as many appearances as Martin or Baldwin but he deserves a mention.
