BP was a phenomenon because everyone was scared to say it wasn’t good.

...

Person Of The Year is supposed to be the person who had the biggest impact, good or bad.

If you have to say “Who?”, they probably shouldn’t even be in the discussion.

And Black Panther wasn’t even the best Marvel film this year.

He's the woke arse black man who discovered Wakanda and is going to lead his people out of oppression and to the Promised Land like Moses.

BP was mediocre but Creed and Fruitvale Station were not.

Coogler and Steve McQueen are both really really good directors to me, regardless of race.

most of the people who saw black panther and said it suckked likely never read the comic.

it held to the comic. it was a good movie.

it certinally wasnt their best but definately better than the pre ruffilo hulk movies...

Time Person of the Year material for sure in 2018. He can join the ranks of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin.

i absolutely read the comics and i'm not going to say it sucked, but it was very mediocre in an oversaturated comic book Hollywood. MBJ was sympathetic, but way overacted. CGI was terrible. War rhinos? There were CGI war rhinos in a movie nominated for best drama.

Green Lantern is the worst comic book movie since 2011. The bar is pretty high since Ruffalo Hulk debuted.

This. It was a paint by numbers comic book movie. The differences in quality between the worst and best comic book movies that have come out in the past 10 years or so are really not that far from each other.

Black Panther has no business being in the same conversation as the top movies of the year.

Eh. It may, but that’s more a function of the quality of movies this year than on BP.

Current odds say the top 5 candidates are A Star Is Born, Roma, Green Book, Vice, and The Favorite.

BP’s odds vary by outlet but they are somewhere between 7 and 11, as about 4 films aren’t on the board at some of the bettors.

None of the films on the list look particularly interesting or, in the case of Star, original, so BP may benefit.

(Star is widely acclaimed but it has to be one of the most remade films in Hollywood history.)
