Soccer was gay last year. It’s gay now. And it will be gay for the foreseeable future. Let Europe have the whole sport.

You're giving that game way too much importance.

Too bad Americans overwhelmingly lost interest in soccer after the Scottish fans went home.

It's frickin sports. Trash talk is part of it. Anyone upset by it needs thicker skin.

We don’t play soccer in the US we play at soccer. I never expected the US to win the World Cup. I didn’t even watch the first game the US played in. I tried to watch a a game earlier in the tournament to see if I could get myself into it and just couldn’t. I don’t see what the rest of the world sees in the sport of Soccer. It’s terribly boring. I think the US got a lot of benefit out of hosting the World Cup but the game of soccer is just not our cup of tea. I can’t believe so many people fooled themselves into thinking the US could win.

We will never be great at this sport since we funnel all of our best athletes to football, basketball, baseball, hell even hockey.

There’s also a reason poor countries love it cause they grow up playing it. All you need is a ball and two rocks to make a goal.

We may be good here and there, but never on a long term, sustained basis.

Besides, how many Super Bowls does Belgium have?

All these people thinking the US had a chance to win this World Cup reminds me of how Alabama fans go crazy over a good Alabama basketball team. The best Alabama ever does most years is the Sweet Sixteen of March Madness. Now they have a good coach and access to a little better caliber of player through the portal and let’s just call it what it is nowadays free agency and people just know Alabama will win the Natty in Basketball. Bama has made the Elite 8 a few times and the Final Four once I think but Alabama is what it is in Basketball. They always seem one or two players short of winning a title or a break or two away from winning one. When expectations and excitement start going off over Alabama winning a title in basketball I always say one thing. Call me when they do it because I will believe it when it finally happens. US Soccer is the same way. Call me when they do it. I have watched the hype train in Bama basketball leave the station to many times only to return early and loaded down with disappointed fans. Guess now I will have another hype train to watch leave the station with US Soccer fans.

Said it in another thread. Good off season conditioning sport for middle schoolers and younger, but really nothing more than a guaranteed letter jacket for fragile white boys at the high school level. And nothing more than a club sport at many universities.

The demographics of Belgium must have changed a lot in the 20 years since I lived there.
