I don’t understand why the President doesn’t put forward a placeholder. Put in Martin as a Deputy AG or some unconfirmed position and tell him to run it.

He’s trying to make the argument that he’s not a rubber stamp for Trump. NC is about 50/50 Dem and Rep. He thinks if he does this, it will help because the GOP will in behind him. His problem will be turnout. The Dems will turn out and the GOP may not. If he was smart, he would bail out and stay in some cushy job in DC.
