I do it for the sites that are in my favorites/bookmarks too. It is faster for me to just start typing it in than it is to use my mouse to go to the folder and click the link. Usually by the time I get to the 2nd or 3rd letter, the site is the first option and I can just press down to click on it. As a result, there are a number of sites I just never put on my bookmarks.

That is auto fill..... aka the standard way people navigate to websites they frequent.

It's the way new people find a site. There is always attrition of active people.. Interests change, people die. A site will need a constant stream of new people to maintain a constant number of active members.
