Because we have the second most nukes in the world to respond with. Iran using a nuke on U.S. military personnel or bases would be Iran digging their own grave. Nuclear weapons have been had by our sworn enemies since the 1950s , yet have we seen nuclear conflict ? No. It’s all fear mongering to justify wars.

Except Iraq did have wmds or did you all forget they wouldn't let UN inspectors into facilities. Then the UN inspectors said they believed they were moving them in trucks into Syria. Then somehow Assad was dropping gas bombs on the rebels. Guess people don't consider chemical and gas bombs as wmds, even though that is what they are classified as.

To be fair, I don’t think we’ve had a nuclear armed Islamic fundamentalist state government as a sworn enemy in the past. So this is virgin territory, and IMO rather concerning, to put it mildly.

Obviously there is a portion of posters who fail to know about - much less remember - the days after the fall of the Shah of Iran. The ME has been one cluster after another and will give you one guess as to why - the Imperialist State of Persia

I was active duty in the Army during OIF in 2003. I viewed the claims that Iraq had WMD with suspicion. Who remembers the yellow cake bullshite?
I was working at Eisenhower Med center at Fort Gordon and saw my share of guys coming home with IED injuries. I despise W and Cheney to this day.
Moving forward, the neocons targeted Syria’s Assad for regime change by the sane bs-wmd.
So, yea, I’m skeptical that Iran was close to developing a nuclear weapon, and even more doubtful they would commit to first use *if* they did possess one. MAD would apply here as well.
My opinion is that WMD is overstated to support regime change and promote US and Israeli hegemony in the ME.
