For reference, Dave Reaboi is a big Trump supporter and has been a really huge fan of his foreign policy and he's not someone what you would call a GOPe quisling.

He's just grounded in reality.

quote:

TODAY at the Capitol was the totally foreseeable result of a political movement with apocalyptic rhetoric + an utter unwillingness to have a realistic plan for success. “Trust the Plan” or arcane, last moment slight-of-hand was never going to succeed.

For 3 months, good people were conned into believing the most absurd things imaginable—and then radicalized into believing that anyone who questioned these absurdities or doubted the effectiveness of a January 6 revolution were enemies.

I don’t think what happened today at the Capitol was the worst thing ever, nor do I think it was even 1/10 as bad as your average BLM or Antifa riot.

But it was pathetic. It was pathetic because there was no concept of a path forward. It was an impotent spasm.

As I’ve said many times, Trump could’ve salvaged what happened on Nov 3. He could’ve delivered the speech he gave today right after the election—on the steps of the PA, GA, AZ capitols. He could’ve built a Comms infrastructure that identified then put out credible evidence fraud.

He did not do that. He allowed the momentum to evaporate—and his supporters’ attention to turn to people who were either maniacs or indulgent of nonsense theories that wind people up, but are insane and also unprovable.

He and others calculated that, if they spin enough people up with craziness, maybe they can sustain or recapture the energy of the last days of the campaign (which was real and amazing).

What they ended up doing was pushing themselves into a corner—the Republic was doomed if they didn’t figure out a way out of a jam that literally had no exit that would be satisfactory for their supporters.

THIS is the big crime, and an unforgivable one: You cannot put your people into a corner they cannot get out of. They’re good people, and you’re fricking with them. People deserve the truth—not grifters begging for dollars or politicians too proud to admit there’s no path.

It highlights one of my problems with Trump being that he does not have a tendency to pay attention to detail, just goes with whatever is the driving instinct at the moment, has no tendency to play the long game and he never did learn the nuts and bolts of government as that kind of institutional knowledge would've really helped inform a lot of his decisions.

Trump allowing Grifters saying crazy shite to be associated with his stop the steal effort did enormous damage to himself and it culminated in the disaster of storming the capital.

Just an absolute disaster all around and truly a dark time for this land that we love.

Agreed. Trump should have straightforward called for an armed insurrection in DC about a month ago.

The best explanation of Trump I’ve heard was this...

Trump fights everyone in the crowd on his way to the ring.

That is pretty good. At some point, being reckless was really going to bite Trump and it finally did. The problem with summoning people to DC like that is he got their hopes up for some type of celebration and you just don't have control over a scene like that -- it's a fuse waiting to be lit and prone to infiltration, even if most of the people there were well-intentioned.

Let me set you straight, since that post is USDA Bovine Excrement.

For 8 years under Obama, the rhetoric was dumbed down in this country to the point where there was no policy debate. If you disagreed with Obama - about anything - it was because you were racist and evil.

Trump was elected and they illegally spied on him to attempt an illegal coup. They LIED to the American people about Russians hacking the DNC and affecting the election (ignoring Twitter and Facebook and Google and the MSM interfering in the election as well, while Russia didn't do shite).

Then, they impeached Trump over nothing.

Then they stole an election.

So, frick off with your dishonest spin. You can parrot CNN wannabes all you want, it doesn't make it true, lol.

Trump is a brawler and one hell of a fighter and god bless him for that as that is commendable.

The problem is that we needed a tactical leader the last two months and Trump is just not that guy.

"Good people were conned" blah blah blah.

Before Donald Trump ever said a single word publicly about concerns of election fraud I was basically as suspicious as I still continue to be today, with a few holes filled in of course. Looks like it was impossible for me to be conned because I was already with it. Does this mean I'm just uber-intuitive and IQ crashing off the charts, or......were a whole, whole bunch more people in my exact same boat, thus the whole "good people were conned" thing being an ill-advised attempt at thinking on the part of those promoting the narrative??

Confirming you did not read my OP and went completely off topic.

The OP is about the event of yesterday and the last two months, not the overall trend of the last several years.

Idiot.

He needed to put so many operational
things in place immediately before and after the election and did none of it. That failure, as well as his conduct down the stretch, ruins any legacy.

What Trump needed to do was spend money to make sure that it did not get out of hand, they stay in their designated areas and nobody goes where they're not supposed to. I'm talking about hiring private security to make sure there were no troublemakers because you cannot allow them to undermine your message.

Every political event of over 100 people 1 has one the following

- The dope who is always "running for Congress" and hands out cards. Mostly harmless but keep away from VIPs.

- The truly disturbed. While tragic, you keep eyes on him or her.

- Instigators.

PLAN ACCORDINGLY and make sure they do not cause any trouble.

Trump isn't a fighter. He sends other people to fight for him. When they don't achieve the results he needs, he calls them names and says he never needed them anyway. He's the kind of guy that talks shite when going into battle, but when the shooting starts, he tucks tail and runs leaving his soldiers behind. Then if they are victorious, he returns to the battlefield and takes credit for the victory. Anyone that has ever served has served with an a-hole like this. You know it's true. Trump is a dirt bag little pussy. frick him

You were not the target audience that needed to be convinced. You're already on board.

It's the legislators that need to be convinced there was a problem with how their vote went.

The point is the Constitution gives those legislatures the power to set the means and mode of elections, and that power was usurped by governors, courts, secretaries of state and others who departed from state law.

The failure on the part of Team Trump not to make this their central case for overturning the failed election can’t be overstated. It’s the reason they lost all those court cases, the courts generally couldn’t understand why Trump’s lawyers were bothering them when it was the Legislature who had the responsibility to fix the problem.
