Yeah. I sort of expected no one could be stupid enough to film that IRL too. Then Brandon Hatcher a 19y/o nursing student admitted making the video.

Looks like I was wrong.

I'd chalk it up to immaturity (19 years old) and attention whoring (TikTok) rather than racism or pure evil.

He did appear to care about his job and his elderly family based on his other videos and he took responsibility for his actions based on what he said in the apology video.

Rather than crucify the kid and further continue the cycle of division perhaps acknowledge his remorse and actions going forward (not directed at you but social media in general).

I know I did a lot of stupid shite as a teenager thinking it was funny and am grateful there were no cell phone cameras and social media to document and share them.

Hopefully he learns a few lessons and becomes a better person because of it.

* Thanks for the update

I'm sure that it's been pointed out, but as much as I want to be upset, this looks like a staged video. There are some disgusting elder abuse videos out there, but this just seems like one of those dumb arse tik tok nurse videos.

Amazing how many young people will throw away all sense of civility or morality to obtain social media credit. This will be the legacy of the social media age.

This young man alone is responsible for his actions but it really is an indictment of the entire social media culture. What a sad commentary on contemporary society.

Yet seeing as the young man has issued an apology, I tend to agree with the comments by Pisgah above. Teenagers and young men of that age often have a macabre sense of humor.

Dead-baby jokes were the rage when I was in high school — the more gruesome the better. Thankfully, my generation’s immaturity wasn’t captured for digital posterity on social media platforms.

This does not mean there should be no repercussions for the the young man’s actions: as I indicated above, at the very least he should be removed from his job for using a patient as a prop. That is a despicable breach of ethical conduct for any worker in the health care industry.

Having said all that, the double racial standard at play here should be noted. It is hard to imagine the media sh*+-storm that would have erupted if a white kid did this to an elderly black patient.

I hope the first lesson learned in this case is to not to attribute every bad thing that happens on the intrawebz to Russian trolls.
