This NBA season will likely be politicized like no other

This is all my opinion, but I can envision an NBA in which about half of the players don't stand for the national anthem. The NBA is a league that is far more liberal than the NFL, MLB, or NHL.
- NBA Owners proactively boycotted Trump hotels last season
- NBA Coaches like Kerr and Pop publicly decried Trump and Trump voters
- NBA Players attended Clinton rallies and publicly identified with the BLM movement
- NBA Media types are far more outspoken on leftist social causes at the national and local level than any other sport
- NBA fans are younger and skew heavily liberal. Most of the NBA diehard fans who are white are SJW's and proud of it. Every single writer for every Pelicans fan website is very, very far left (they are all white).
The fans themselves will start to sit during the anthem in a joint act of defiance - we were already seeing this at some games last year after Trump took office. It was mostly black fans last year who would sit and talk or sit and look defiantly at their phones. Perhaps now some liberal whites will join them, buying the narrative that any flag which represents Trump's America isn't worth saluting.
This will make for a far more tense atmosphere at Pelicans games (for example) as the racial divides between people who sit and stand will be somewhat obvious, and it will create a tensity that has never existed before. What once brought us together and united us will for the first time start to divide us. Parents might sense the tension and decide it's not a good place to bring young children anymore.
I hope that I'm wrong about all of this, but with ESPN, coaches, players, fans, and social media politicizing sports like never before it's a foregone conclusion that this will happen to some extent.

NBA has sucked for decades.

If I watched the NBA I might care.

Well, that does it. Zach is going to continue his boycott (now going on 20 years) of watching any NBA games.

I'm currently scheduled to miss the NBA for the 33rd season in a row.

And viewership #'s confirms that.

Pretty sure the viewers of NBA are already left leaning.
So that is what they do already.

Thank God I can willfully choose to not hear any of them. Unless Bill, Bull, or Clyde decide to take up the topic (they won't) during the game broadcast, I don't have to hear shite about it, and still get to enjoy the season. It's your choice to consume all that extra bullshite.
I'd advise you to try it, but I have a feeling you actually want all your guesses to come to fruition.

And like the last 20 years, I won't watch a single second of it.

NBA is a terrible product and they will have a hard time attracting new fans
The thing is when I went to Mavericks games the ticket holders were mostly corporate types entertaining clients especially in the good seats.

Did not give NBA one dime of my earnings nor one second of viewing time last year. No plans to change my position, either. My life was not altered in any negative way by ignoring the NBA.

I can't watch any less NBA than my present 0%!
Posted on 8/22/17 at 11:58 am to SirWinston
I really don't care what the NBA does. I don't watch that shite anyway.

Who cares? These are people we watch play a sport, not comment on social issues.
I'll watch them play the sport and I'll ignore their commentary on social issues.

Wonder how many fake hate crimes LeBron will carry out this year in another attempt to boost ratings.
Funny how we still haven't seen anything about that. I know I wouldn't have any cameras at the gate of my $20 million house either, right?

People actually watch this anymore?

If I remember correctly, I thought I heard last year while the NFL had protests that the NBA had a long-standing rule in place requiring players to stand for the anthem. Probably explains why we didn't see anthem protesting at NBA games.
NFL is going to have a mess on their hands because the Browns had 12 players kneeling for the anthem last night...including a white player for the first time. If other teams follow suit and we start seeing large numbers of players kneeling at every game, the NFL is really going to be shooting themselves in the foot.
