They're just pissed off because we are using AI to make videos that make them look like even bigger retards than they already are.

Regulating tech is like regulating guns. The good ones don't need to be told how to be safe and ethical, and the bad ones won't follow the rules either way.
I get the need to codify regulations as the foundation for punishment, but it will inevitably just be a money grab and work only to hinder progress.

Everybody's entitled to their own opinion, but I don't even think that would make my top 20.
I would argue that the statements from Chris Krebs stating that the 2020 election was the most secure in our nation's history takes the gold.

Trump signed an executive order in March aiming to stop state-level AI regulations, specifically targeting laws that require transparency in AI training data…
So that seems great. Who would ever want transparency?
A major focus of his administration is removing what he terms "left-wing ideology" or "DEI" from AI models. In July 2025, he signed an executive order prohibiting federal agencies from procuring AI models that sacrifice "truthfulness and accuracy to ideological agendas"
Super duper “not regulating AI” there.
The White House released a legislative proposal calling on Congress to create a uniform federal AI standard. This framework seeks to preempt most state AI laws, though it allows for some exceptions, such as those governing child safety protections and a state's own use of AI.
I guess we need to get rid of those child safety protections.
“Regulation” is a trigger word for the LCDs of MAGA.

What is your professional experience with AI? The discussion around these topics will probably upset you unless you're at least somewhat in the industry.

You don't need to know anything about AI to understand this one. You got it exactly backwards, fwiw.

I mean, these companies aren't going to want to be forced to publish their training data. And why would anyone want to make them? That hinders competition. At the end of the day AI is a race. And AI is here to stay. So since that's the case, we want to win the race.
It's a tough subject though, because AI has the potential to be detrimental if it isn't ethical. I'm glad I'm not the one having to make these decisions.

It certainly is. It's also my current favorite subject outside of my hobby of space and physics. One of those rare times when you don't have to wonder if it's important.

Same, but it's incredibly exciting and intimidating just being in the room. I haven't been this delightfully confused since we all pretended we knew exactly what the cloud was when it came out.

Software development, data engineering. I don’t build AI from scratch, but I know how it works.

Yeah, I think the AI genie is permanently out of the lamp.
I remember a few years ago (pre Covid-19) I was telling some people on this forum the day is coming very soon when a person doesn't need to know anything about code programming, you'll be able to ask the AI assistant to create a program/app and you will be the one beta testing the result.....that day arrived over 4 years ago and now there are companies like Base44 that allows anyone who knows how to think and ask questions to develop your own personal app.

Ah, nice. So the concept of protection of IP should be fully ingrained if you're over 30 or so.
The second one is not regulation of an industry but a decision affecting only the federal government. Obviously the choice of vendor for the government is at the discretion of the government, with no threat to the free market.

Yes, so how do you allow people to train AI on source data (which can easily be IP) without mandating transparency? How does that protect IP?
Posted on 4/1/26 at 6:30 pm to DeathByTossDive225
You enforce established laws for IP.

How do you enforce a law if there is literally no way to prove something was stolen? You need transparency for that. And who would be held responsible?
Take music as a very simple and innocuous example. If it’s trained on IP that isn’t public domain & someone believes their copyright has been infringed by AI… but there is no transparency on whether their song is in the training data…
Training datasets are treated as if they are the IP of the AI developer. That’s bullshite, unless it’s an edge case where someone is training their own model on exclusively their own IP.
I think someone in this very thread said the training data is arguably more important than the model. That data can easily be other people’s IP, and audit trails should be mandatory.
