So pathetic...

quote:

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —
A southwest Missouri couple who illegally bought ginseng from Arkansas has been sentenced to a year of probation.

The Springfield News-Leader reports 77-year-old Kermit Schofield and his wife, 73-year-old Sandy Schofield were sentenced Tuesday in a courtroom packed with supporters from their hometown.

The couple farms and sells herbs in Theodosia, a town of about 250 people near the Missouri-Arkansas border.

Federal prosecutors say that between June 2013 and August 2015 the Schofields illegally bought more than 100 pounds of ginseng in Arkansas. Prosecutors say the couple bought the ginseng outside the permitted time frame for purchasing ginseng in Missouri, and they knew it was illegal transport ginseng out of Arkansas without a state certification.

As part of the sentence, the Schofields agreed to pay $65,000 in restitution and a $5,000 fine.

I've driven through that little shite hole town many tmes on my way to Jonesboro. I didn't realize it was such a hot bed of drug activity.

I'll make sure to keep my doors locked next time I drive though.

OH MY GOD they carried ginseng across state lines, NOT in the allowed time frame. OFF with their heads! What is next oregano?

Is Uncle Sam and state regs mad they didn't get THEIR CUT? Next they will tax the wooden boxes and urns we go into when we die and turn to ashes...

Sessions doing work.

He will go door-to-door if necessary, but he will save us all from the terrifying evil of illegal plants.

Yep. There should be harsh mandatory minimums for ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES like these. If you don't like the laws - THEN VOTE TO GET THEM CHANGED. It's not the prosecutor's job to pick and choose. THE LAW IS THE GOTTDAMNED LAW...just like Jesus said.

Anybody got a link to explain the dangers of ginseng (and the danger to a grower who doesn't know if it's growing on her land?

They were free to follow the law just like the rest of us. Put 'em under the prison.

They absolutely should have been arrested if they broke the law.

But it's kinda funny that the FBI is concerned about this, while Rosie bribes US Senators out in the open and leftists violently attack anyone and everyone who thinks differently than they do without consequence.

Meh, if it were cigarette's or something else, we would probably be fine with this. A state has a right to protect their natural resources (oregano and ginseng included). All they are getting is fines.

ETA: I have no idea why the FBI gives a shite, but interstate smuggling is certainly something that would be handled in a Federal court.

bullshite. If they knew then fine.

However, there are a lot of laws that get added and no one knows about it.
