Outstanding, thoughtful reply! The feeling of respect is mutual
To clarify, when I say "frick the confederacy," I mean the cause for which they fought, which, as you stated, was based on a lie. What I endeavor not to do is paint a picture of the north as being virtuous emancipators (they weren't), or the average rebel footsoldier as a cartoonishly evil villain. Neither is true--i'm just eternally grateful that confederate lost and the nation didn't end up being rent asunder.
I can recognize the individual merits of confederate soldiers while decrying their cause. But I don't believe that monuments exalting their treasonous cause based on subjugation of those called countrymen today sows the antithesis of racial harmony, IMO. Museum setting is more appropriate.
You'll never find me actively campaigning for removal of statues and the like. There are more important political issues afoot. But I won't stand in the way, either.

CNN says these are white nationalist. It must be true!

How can a Virginian support the removal of a statue of the man who left his position high in the US army to protect his people from invaders?
They don't support traitors to our country?

but no different than any of the ANTIFA, BLM, bullshite, man.
so why are you supporting this but not those?
Here is the difference and why a mistake is being made.
Those groups are APPLAUDED by the left, MSM, and government. The Mayor of Berkeley is a member of BAMN! ETC....
Those groups call for terrible things to happen to white people, gop, etc etc. Those groups destroy property, demand SEGREGATION! They take over colleges and towns.
All Praised. These people, however, are demonized and did none of those things last night that I saw.
Trump supporters throughout the campaign were called NAZI, White supremacists, etc etc. You have a major party and it's leaders STATING those things.
Now you tell me, using any logic you can find, where that leads?

Is that what the court did last night? Defend them when they ruled in their favor?

If the mayor of Charlottesville issues derogatory statements toward blacks inciting the very worst elements of black racial activism to respond, does one then incite things further by berating the fringe your actions attracted? Apparently so if you support the dumbass Mayor of Charlottesville.

It always amazes me how people that champion themselves as the party of personal responsibility can't seem to ever find any.
You are exactly why those people are even around. You actually have the mentality that people should just be ok with being told you don't get a voice. Told that they are racists. You need to wake up and see what you are going to create.

Odd to see so many posters here knight for these racists by deflecting.
You are not listening. You need communication 101.
BTW... where were you when the Left was burning things at the Trump rallies, clubbing people etc etc...
I know the answer to that.

2017 Republican gubernatorial nominee Ed Gillespie today released the following statement on the events in Charlottesville:
“Having a right to spew vile hate does not make it right. It is painful to see these ugly events in Charlottesville last night and today. These displays have no place in our Commonwealth, and the mentality on display is rejected by the decent, thoughtful and compassionate fellow Virginians I see every day. I know we all appreciate the law enforcement officials maintaining order and protecting public safety there.”
See? It's not hard.

To clarify, when I say "frick the confederacy,"
There is less than a hair's difference between excuses for tearing down these monuments, and excuses for tearing down those of founding fathers such as Washington, Madison, and Jefferson.
So the question is, where does it stop?
Gutting national legacy, both good and bad, serves purpose only for spreading ignorance. Nothing more. Far better to honor those so far forgotten or ignored in past struggles.
We should erect monuments dedicated to sacrifices, struggles and hardship of slaves, freedmen, abolitionists, etc. But gutting history in an attempt to erase it, forget it, cleanse it, or circumvent it is an intellectually bankrupt approach.

White people are the only ones who are being told that they aren't allowed to be proud of who they are.
They should be able to have those marches.
The marches are stupid, though.

It seems everybody who was there to protest the taking down of the Robert E Lee statute is being labeled as white supremacists
That's because the majority of the protesters are racists. The Lee statue is just a symbol and an excuse for their hateful behavior and agenda.

People who take pride in skin color are losers. You don't get to ride my coattails just because we share a certain shade of pigment.
