higher steel costs will raise breakevens across the industry.
Since The oil industry only uses U.S. Made steel, how will these tarrifs raise the price of their steel?
As a matter of fact, you may see U.S. Steel get more affordable soon.

Risk a global trade war over some stolen intellectual property? No. Not the answer.
How about, don't trade with China at all in the intellectual property industry since you guys claim it's a small amount we're even exporting to there.
You don't think Russia, India, and other countries don't steal our intellectual property? Please...
Or, we could lock down how we deal with trade secrets and patents (as in, not public record -- a novel idea) and punishing companies for entering into such partnerships with the Chinese that allows for intellectual property theft. That would work more than stupid tariffs.

Yeah? Sounds like you must work for the Chinese.
I had the exact same thought.

I said in a large part, I didn't say they didn't at all.

They use Chinese steel for pipe and casing...
"They" are often SoKo manufacturers purchasing Chinese steel dumped at manipulated price points. SoKo has a limited domestic steel industry. So buying from a cheater, then transshipping a fabricated product is a no-harm-no-foul proposition for SoKo and others.
That has to change.

The oil industry uses a lot of Chinese steel...see my earlier post.

I don't think this is the case.
Tariffs will give US producers reason to raise their prices as well. It's going to go up across the board.

The lessor the demand, the higher the prices go up.
100% backwards, fwiw....

The industry uses a significant amount of Chinese steel....enough to have the industry howling over the tariffs.

Um, no it's not. Have you ever taken economics?

It's a good thing you're an attorney because you don't know shite about economics.

So you'd say we have a great supply of oil? Won't need it much longer if so, in the long run, the prices will rise.

No. Your question was who is the “they” in my post. Answered. You’re now having some other convo with yourself.

I don't, and have never worked in the Oil producing industry.
I have seen other posters say that the O/G industry doesn't use Chinese steel.
Now I have done a lot of piping, setting up fueling stations, stuff like that, and using chinese valves, couplings, fittings was a big mistake, that I have made before.
When it was time to do the leak tests, and put the air pressure to it and sprayed the shite down,it would look like a kid with a bubble blower.
I can see how they might risk it once, but not much after that.

They’re at best mistaken.

Yes....and taught economics, too. And, um, yes, you have it backwards.
If there is less demand for a product or service then price will go down.
If you argue with that Econ 1001 basic principle then you're an idiot.

I don't understand the freak out about a country that we get less than 5% of our steel from. Our other trade partners will gladly absorb it.
China treats their employees like garbage with poor conditions, wages, etc and everyone is OK buying their products. On the other hand we have people shout from the rooftops about Walmart not paying their employees enough. Why not use our bargaining power to get the rest of the world to play fair.
That's what this is all about. Fair deals where everyone is coming to the table without a leg up by cutting corners in safety, emissions, wages, etc.
