“never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity”
It wasn’t an insurrection, it was capital police being incompetent with national repercussions.

I saw it as a mostly peaceful protest.

Jan 6 was planned and orchestrated by anti-government extremists and TRUMP had nothing to do with it.
I believe the politicians inside the building knew the disruption was coming, it was all planned by the SWAMP so they could have a solid basis to impeachment TRUMP! The building security officers basically moved the barriers and let them in....
SORRY SWAMPERS.....it BACKFIRED!!!!!!!!

Often lost in the story is the fact that the Capital Police Chief and the Senate Sergeant at Arms were almost IMMEDIATELY forced to resign. There was no hesitation, as if it were just THAT blatantly obvious that security played a very inconsequential role in the melee. Which had they not been so badly ineffective and unprepared, perhaps this isn't half the story as it turned out to be. Interesting.

An "insurrection" is burning the building to the ground with every member of Congress in it. That was no insurrection.

The question is - WHAT LAWS WERE BROKEN? Should Nancy be fitted for prison stripes, or be given a last wish before her punishment?

I never gave an opinion on any of the other events...simply that the events of Jan 6 were clearly “an instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government.”
Explain how I’m wrong...

Nancy Pelosi's actions look a lot more like a coup than the actual event.
She--
- tried to get the military to violate their chain-of-command
- threatend the VP to use the 25th amendment for a purpose it was never intended for
- summoned the use of the military as a "show of force" just like dictator's do
- used impeachement for a purpose it was never intended for

If this had been a real insurrection, the Capitol would be a smoldering ruin and there would have been hundreds of dead Reps and Senators.
Posted on 2/14/21 at 5:11 pm to RiverCityTider
Most of the Capitol "riot" looked like a bunch of tourists walking around. And to think, all of the statues of old dead white guys and none were destroyed!

It was certainly an insurrection by definition and multiple people have already been charged with participating. A poor insurrection is still insurrection.

Do you really not understand the difference between an insurrection and a coup? You just described a coup...

The execution really didn't matter much...to them. All they really needed was an execution, any execution.

Insurrection - revolting against civil authority or established government.
Revolting - to renounce allegiance to said established government.
**There was an overt renouncing of allegiance to the government? The facts sorts have to exactly fit the law and definitions. That's why in this case, as in most other cases, there are other unlawful actions that might better fit the facts.

So...revolt has only that meaning? Or did you selectively edit the other definition:
Definition of revolt (Entry 2 of 2)
1 : a renouncing of allegiance (as to a government or party)
especially : a determined armed uprising
2 : a movement or expression of vigorous dissent
Pretty sure it meets the standard for #2...
Posted on 2/14/21 at 5:25 pm to BornAndRaised_LA
So any expression of vigorous dissent against civil authority is insurrection? C'mon man. That would literally be any and all protests. And most certainly all the riots over the summer. My opinion is that even those don't meet the definition of insurrection. Because in this context, yes, definition (1) is the applicable definition.
ETA...actually, I change my mind. Yes, some of the summer riot instances would certainly fit "insurrection". "CHAZ" comes to mind. That's renouncing allegiance to your government.

Posted on 2/14/21 at 5:27 pm to RiverCityTider
