Was streaming it from the PBS app with no problem a week ago. Today I go to watch the last 2 episodes and I have to register for "PBS Passport" for $5/month.

why would I have to pay for PUBLIC broadcasting? Don't I already pay for this through taxes?

This might be the issue that pushes me to buy a Kodi stick, and if I'm ever facing criminal charges my defense will be that I had to pay for public broadcasting twice

I've been streaming it on the PBS Roku app for free, without a problem. And it's pretty badass. I think everyone should watch the 1st episode, at a minimum. It goes into a lot of info from WWII to Vietnam, that I had never learned.

Hell, just to give out that North Vietnam was pushed into conflict by China, against the USSR's wishes, was a surprise. Even taking honors history classes my whole life, I never heard that before.

Yea it's like they realized they finally have a popular show and are trying to squeeze us.

I'm glad there's at least one unbiased, non commercial news source left. Sorry if their documentaries go against your confirmation bias.

for anyone that enjoyed this documentary and how in depth it went.

Give this book a read. I read it about 2-3 years ago for the first time and about to read through it again. It tracks back from the Great War all the way through Vietnam and presents all the different angles in indo-china with each countries colonialism and how their views changed over the years.

I highly recommend it

Damn, you're right. Did they get defunded, or have their funding reduced? I know Trump has talked about it. Even though it's tax deductible. They shouldn't charge for new episodes of programs unless they've lost their funding (apparently older episodes are all still free).

I love their shows what can I say. They make enough money from their major contributors and pledge drives to where they don't need federal funds.

I've bookmarked this post to read it later.

I've been listening to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History about WWI. And there's so many events in it, that are relevant to our current global political situation. It's really great to listen to on long drives.

They do a great job, and make interesting programs. But I'm not well informed enough about their finances. I just don't want it to become beholden to American oligarchs. I'm proud that PBS isn't a pure propaganda network, like RT.

It's mind blowing to think about the repercussions of one guy making a wrong turn and having to turn around.
