Are you saying the Shah destroyed the best era in Iranian history? You don’t even have your facts straight.
The CIA-sponsored coup that overthrew Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh and installed the Shah happened in 1953 — not the 1960s. The Shah was then ousted in the 1979 Iranian Revolution led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
More importantly, you’re missing Kirk’s point. Charlie Kirk is not lamenting the ouster of the Shah, who indeed was a steadfast ally of the United States.
Kirk is arguing that the 1953 coup created residual resentment that ultimately led to a revolution by radical elements in Iran that created decades of Iranian hostility toward the United States. Kirk’s point is that U.S. sponsored regime changes in the Middle East repeatedly have created unforeseen and often disastrous consequences that will ripple across the region for decades to come.
