The real terror that keeps me awake some nights:

There are many on both sides who do not fear war.
No matter what you think, you don’t know the horror of war if it came to our lands. Either we divorce peacefully or learn to live in harmony and compromise, but the last option I cannot support.

Part of the problem is we have one side which has decided that they are no longer bound by the social compact we have always had in our country. We see them as wrong but they see us as evil. You can do anything you like to evil people because they are evil. The right is slowly waking up to the fact that these people have no desire to live in peace with us. They will be the first to sue for peace once they have pushed us too far, but by then it will be far too late.
They think that they can cancel someone and take away everything they have worked for and that there will be no consequences. Well what do you get when you take everything from a man? You have a bitter man with nothing left to lose. What does a man like that do?

The mass murder that would be required to eradicate the other side would very probably exceed the Six Million eradicated in The Holocaust.
Whomever wins The Second American Civil War will preside over the most prolific Mass Murderer Regime in the History of the Western World.

I've tried to mind my own business and just be left alone. But they keep pushing. Part of the problem has been ignoring these dims, because it has emboldened them to keep pushing farther and farther.
I know that when I finally push back, it will be the end of living in comfort the way I always have. People are at the end of their rope and there is no compromise.

People clearly don't understand how this plays out in real life.
Ideological wars are fought to the death, not for territory. See the Russian civil war and Chinese civil war.
"Starting" the war would literally involve genocide and mass murder. The overwhelming majority of society doesn't support it, so any attempt to start it would be quickly extinguished. At least as of today.
