Probably because OP is a fricking loser that craves someone to judge. I don't give a shite if a poor person owns a cheap arse TV and anyone that does is a moron.
Poverty is a moving target. It shouldn't be, but it is.
The levels of destitution inherent in US Depression Era poverty, or current African poverty is something virtually inconceivable to Americans below our current poverty line. There is no comparability, nor is there an effort to point that out. Our glass is always portrayed as half-empty.
E.g., Median income in Italy would rate as poverty-level here. Yet middle class Italians have a far better outlook than do Americans living at the same relative level.
As pointed out in the OP, today's US poverty includes flat screen TVs, cell phones, heated & air-conditioned living spaces, etc. Those are things uncommon to middle-class or affluent Americans 3-5 decades ago.
Those folks 3-5 decades ago, who got along without luxuries common even to today's US impoverished households, are said to have lived in an American Golden Age.
According to many of the same folks lamenting today's US poverty levels, middle class households of the 1970's "had it made." Conceptually, those are wildly discordant beliefs.
One or both of those holdings need an adjustment. My inclination is an empathy for both, but with a realistic edge. Rather than lamenting what we don't have, our emphasis should be on what we do have (much of which we take for granted).

OP wants us to reflexively look down on poor people.
The OP wants you to understand that the vast majority of "poor" Americans are rarely destitute by past US standards or present world standards.
The OP is pointing out that the majority of food stamp recipients are not destitute.

They get free phones courtesy of us taxpayers. So do immigrants. They’re called Obama phones

horse shite. There are probably more "working poor" republicans than democrats, especially in this part of the country.
We hate leeches. Lets not pretend that many of the folks recieving benefits are overweight, over procreate, and own high-end luxury items - which is the point of the thread.

An AEI study a few years ago showed that a non-working family could leverage 60,000 per year in total benefits from the government. That's nearly DOUBLE the poverty threshhold in America. We also have a clear obesity epidemic among the poorest in our country.
We pay for their food, they get fat, they get sick, we pay for their heathcare, everything gets more expensive, then the cycle repeats.
Yes, we have a problem.

So obviously you think only kangz are on snap. Louisiana is super poor and the kangz ain’t the only snap receivers.
Plenty of unseasoned chicken skins receive snap. Actually the majority do.

You're right. Poor people should never have anything nice even if it's dirt cheap.

And only the latest and greatest flagship phones are in the 1000 dollar range. Do you think that's what they're getting? And we're far removed from Obama.

People are complaining about poors having 4K TVs
You can get a new 4K TV at Walmart for 200 dollars, even cheaper somewhere used. It's not a luxury item and we need to stop pretending that it is.

deflect all you want, but why are they getting anything free? especially illegal immigrants.
why are you and I paying for anything for them? why are you okay with this?

I don't have a problem with helping the working poor with necessities like food and shelter
It's one of the least abhorrent uses of our tax dollars

that’s not what I asked. let’s me specify: outside of minimal food/shelter help until they are on their feet again, why are we giving them anything on the taxpayers dime? And why are you ignoring the fact that illegal immigrants are also receiving handouts?

I'm thrilled they have 4K TVs, or cell phones, or air conditioned apts that many European middle class folks don't, or living space as large or larger than median homes in Europe. I'm simply pointing out those comparisons are underappreciated.

A 4K TV isn't a high end luxury item
25yrs ago a Philips 42-inch flat screen TV sold for $15,000, and had a resolution of 852x480 pixels. It was absolutely a luxury item. The fact current models are FAR cheaper with FAR better resolution doesn't make them less nice. They're just more affordable. That's a great thing all around.
