Vichy French forces in Northwest Africa gave sporadic resistance for less than 48 hours after we hit the beaches. That's when Darlan ordered them to stop fighting - which they did almost at once. The vast majority of combat U.S. forces saw in North Africa was against Italian and German troops.

Yep. Almost 125,000 French soldiers were evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk, most of which were crack French units who would go on to fight alongside the British for the remainder of the war. Those who weren't evacuated were captured - as I mentioned in the second part of the quote you left off.

Yes and looking at the road network, there are a lot of options from north of Odessa including driving north to Kiev as well as linking up with Transdenistria to the west. Everything they have done so far indicates cutting supply lines by controlling the road networks surrounding cities. Siege seems to be the objective rather than assault except in Mariupol.
