President Ronald Reagan (1981-1989)

Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (1979-1990)

Pope St. John Paul II (1978-2005)

I always found it quite incredible that these three came to power around the exact same time. All of them took a very hard line against communism and the Soviet Union. Pope John Paul II's line was so firm, and his influence in eastern Europe so great, that the KGB tried to have him killed not once but twice. The first assassination attempt almost succeeded.

With communism/socialism now on the rise here at home in America, I wonder who God will ordain to rise up to meet the rising threat to our liberty and our freedom to worship?

Communism still exists in all the same communist countries. Not sure they defeated it.

I believe some of your figures may be inaccurate.

We abandoned what we stood for to defeat Communism, and that will kill us in the end. The Cold War brought about our reckless military adventurism, massive deficits, a massive surveillance apparatus and the Deep State as we know it. We didn't win the Cold War, we just thought we did.

They really didn't defeat it though the communist managed to successfully infultrate America. The problem is our own freedoms have been used against us.

Russia still communist, China communist, Vietnam still communist and Cuba still communist. You could argue the Soviet Union maybe but Russia still commies with Putin as a dictator for the most part.

I've never voted for a Democrat in my life, but what has the Republican Party done to advance the cause of limited government? The party establishment hates the President. They nominated John McCain and Mitt Romney in successive elections. Hell, people like Steve Schmidt, Nicole Wallace and Bill Kristol were considered influential voices in the party less than a decade ago.

Not sure that's really true of Russian, but sure they still have plenty of issues.

But a LOT of eastern European former Soviet Bloc countries (Poland, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, hell the Ukraine) would disagree.

The NAZIs were communists too.

I don’t really distinguish between socialism and communism other than that I view socialism as a transitional phase away from capitalism toward communism. If someone’s a socialist I assume their ultimate goal is communism.

Right. Because that's the only problem with communism

2000-2006 should give you a pretty good idea

Hint: they expanded the shite out of government in almost every conceivable way during that time period
