It's like the melt on 1/9 magnified by many times a thousand. I would know as I melted so hard that night.
Imagine democrats as LSU fans thinking they were going to beat Bama by comfortable margins and Bama just came out and controlled the game and LSU really never threatened to win.
Election night followed that same track and Trump was in control after 8 PM and never looked back and there was nothing liberals and Hillary could do.

The irony in your analogy is that 1/9 was a "recount" for Bama, after losing the election the first time while monitoring the voting machines (losing at home).
