You should ask St James parish president if things are better now that Shell shut down the Convent refinery and is no longer paying 22 million a year in taxes to St. James parish.

Can it be tied to acreage or sq ft of land or something like that?

My point is, something like drainage cost isn't necessairly varied by the value of the land or improvements, but can be by size of land or the type of improvements.

Probably, that's a good question. The issue would be does it become a property tax by another name...thus triggering the various exemptions.

"Longterm strategic reasons focusing on synergy and core competencies."

That is, corporations never really say.

So in your ideal reformed system, homeowners pay more? Would business pay less? Would it be revenue neutral?

Wasn’t there a YouTube video going around by some group that analyzed how much money just BR would be getting from Exxon if ITEP were eliminated? It was something like $70 million.

I’ll have to go search for it.

Not saying ITEP is wrong or right. But what do you think BR would do with that money? Do you think they would use that money in a manner which would improve infrastructure and the quality of life to make LA more attractive to businesses and for professionals to stay in-state or relocate here - which would improve our tax base? Or do you think it would be squander on political self-serving outreach programs for the at-risk population that would probably not add much to the advancement of their community, city or state?

If you can honestly say it’s the former, then I’m in favor of abolishing ITEP.

Together Louisiana is a trash organization.

I'm not saying ITEP is perfect. In fact, I do believe there needs to be more local input.

But Together Louisiana is an organization that believes communism would be great, if only the "right people" were in charge to make it work.

Zero idea, who they are or what they totally do. Just remember seeing the video on youtube through a Facebook link a few months back, so I knew what the other poster was referring to.

Yes, most of them.

Yes, most of them.

This is why it will never happen.

Overall, I guess. But that's very hard to achieve. I don't care if the overall revenue went down.

Then you have situations such as Rapides parish where the sheriff( the tax collector) has paid no property taxes in at least the last 7 years, nor have his 2 sisters.Previous sheriff paid a ridiculously low amt($46.00).Also several police jurors that spend the tax money paid no or ridiculously low amts.

The assessor plays dumb,he has no idea how that happened.

Somehow,I suspect that is going on all over Louisiana. The politically connected get a free ride while the rest of us get hosed.

A sacrifice at the altar of climate change.

That and Shell sucks at running and maintaining assets. Motiva was better mainly because the Saudis were willing to spend money to upgrade things, like infrastructure.
