Karma. Appears the journalist has his own offensive tweets. Something about casting stones comes to mind here.

quote:

The Des Moines Register announced Thursday that the reporter who found years-old offensive tweets by a local man who raised $1 million for charity is no longer with the paper.

The paper's executive editor Carol Hunter published an op-ed on Thursday night and informed readers that Aaron Calvin, the journalist behind the controversial profile about 24-year-old Carson King, is "no longer with the Register."

Social media found past offensive tweets on his own Twitter account after the story was published. Before locking his Twitter account, Calvin issued an apology for his own tweets."Hey just wanted to say that I have deleted previous tweets that have been inappropriate or insensitive. I apologize for not holding myself to the same standards as the Register holds others."

LINK

Update: the fund is now up to 2 million dollars. Brewing company in Iowa is naming a beer after Carson, "Iowa Legend", in his honor. The company also chastised the paper and AB for their idiocracy about the situation.

Can we start tar and feathering these demented leftist media types?

I HATE cancel culture normally, but not this time. Hopefully this will be a lesson taken by all in the media moving forward.

Fire with fire. They deserve to have to scrutinize every word they write, for fear of massive blowback.

If only everyone in media/politics was compelled to do this.

It doesn't get in the paper without going by an editor.

They need to be fired as well.

What's really egregious with this punk "writer" is he felt the need to go to AB to get them to shut down their donations.

And frankly, AB doesn't look good here either.

Why is he/she still with the paper?

The reporter only wrote the story. An editor (or editors) thought it was perfectly fine to publish the story as written, with the hit job in place.

The paper still doesn't get it. They think they handled everything properly

The only problem they see here is their reporter's past

frick all journalist scum these days. They think it's their job to ruin people

Not one bit. They're all just alike in looks and thinking.

They had to add DSM police protection at the paper lol. This douche is out of the state and the reg has lost over 12000 subscriptions.

Because the leaders STILL don't see a problem with what they did.

They only see a problem with the reporter's past

Good. Newspapers are already dying. This may be a kill shot.

The thing that sucks about this is that these and other “journalists” now think it’s their job to dig into people like this once they become famous. Like it’s their public duty to end someone’s 15 minutes of fame. And they pat themselves on the back for “breaking a story.”

The truth is that it is lazy journalism. It’s the easiest thing in the world to “find dirt” on someone, because guess what... everyone has dirt. We are all imperfect people. So the hell what? Breaking news!!

You know what real journalism is? Going down to city hall, pulling a copy of the budget and combing through it like a detective to find all the waste. That is finding dirt. Not using a search engine to find a questionable tweet.

But we don’t make real reporters anymore. J-school now is just a bitch factory.
