They check the executive often, but the executive only has a veto which can be overridden.

This might be meaningful if veto power was even attempted to be used with any frequency. Vetoes are rarely used in the modern era and veto overrides are even less common.

I can't imagine how stupid someone would have to be to want to see executive power expanded, but here you are.

There are term limits now.

They are called elections.

Once you are in Congress, lobbyists send you money in exchange for supporting certain projects. The longer you are there, the more powerful you get and the more money you receive. Consequently, you build a war chest and it's hard to get you out.

Exactly. Without the money regular people are cut off from successfully getting elected.

We need to reduce the power of the legislature to match the weaker branches. If the executive can't limit the legislative then the legislative shouldn't be able to limit the executive.

Sure.

JD would do just fine as President, so the country would be fine. I’m not partisan in my desire to not have DC be a defacto nursing home.

So what you are saying, in essence, is that no one past the age of 72 should be allowed to run for POTUS? Given the chance of not being allowed to finish two terms. Or would 76 be your cut off for POTUS?

I mean, who is going to elect a guy who.will be aged out at 80? He's lame duck the moment he takes office.

Do you realize what you're suggesting?

What about the fact that, as medical science advances and humans live longer and healthier lives ... what happens when human are living to be 100 on a regular basis? 110? 120?

Do you realize how arbitrary your limit becomes?

Ever heard the saying, "if I only knew then what I know now."?

There is something to be said for age, experience, and wisdom. It's biblical to a degree.

Term limits just absolves the voting citizens of responsibility. 'I'll just vote this guy in for 10-12 years and I'll worry about things then. Meanwhile Congress just votes itself all types of goodies with the acquiesence of the executive branch

Weird. I’ve been reliably told that massive outside spending has no effect on a recent election thst ousted a multi-term congressman from kentucky.
