The energy companies have us over a barrel.

I live in a small neighborhood, and my only choice for energy is Entergy, and there is no natural gas. Recently, Entergy changed our meter to a newer type that can be read remotely. Like many in the area, my bill almost doubled the first month, but I have friends in the subdivision who’s bill tripled. Entergy insists, the old meters were unreliable and slowed over time, so they weren’t reflecting an accurate reading. But am I to assume the readings were off by 50% or more? Recently, I learned that the agency that oversees Entergy allows them to charge customers for any undue cost they incur in an emergency, like the cost of new phone polls, overtime, etc. So, theoretically, I could have less usage one month over the previous one and still have my bill astronomically higher because the surcharges are so high. One of my wife’s co-workers bill was so high, she’s now afraid to cook a simple meal on her electric stove for fear of it raising her bill. With the push by the new administration to embrace new green energies and regulations, these bills will only get higher and higher, making what was a previously affordable house, unaffordable to live in. I’m basically at the mercy of a monopoly.

I hope you realize all of this is by design.

Would that improve my plight?

Oncor did tests and found that the old mechanical meters did read slower on average, but only by as much as 2%.
Not 50%.
Not 50%.

Yeah, what company would knowingly allow old meters to rob them of 50% revenues for years if they knew about it?

Stopped reading. No gas = No buy

I had my highest bill ever in January. My house was just studs with no A/C.
When I filed a complaint, they told me that it was an estimated usage and that I could enter a manual meter reading on their website.
Basically they guessed and that guess was higher than my usage in any other month in recent time.

Hindsight is always 20/20.
To be more accurate, there is gas at the main highway, but it would cost me thousands to have a line specially ran to my house.
P.S. it’s only a matter of time before Biden’s energy regulations make natural gas prices skyrocket as well.

Or you could spend hundreds extra per month on the Entergy bill.

I know I mentioned in the OT that they changed our meter and we saw substantial increase with no different usage.

My old man gets about 70% of his power from solar and 100% of his water from a rain water collection system. Also has a whole home generator and one of those large propane tanks that it runs on. He has a 2 story 4200 square foot house and his electric bill is a about 65 a month. Seen it at low as 20. Lol. Yes, hes a Trump supporting Texan and great American.

Which makes their entire argument about the old meters ridiculous.

I can’t wait. My royalty checks are a mere fraction of what they were not so many yrs ago.

Glad someone can benefit from it.

My bill stayed the same. Based on the size of my house it is rather cheap as well.

This is baffling. Why are so many affected, but a few, unchanged?
I’ve read enough about the situation to know many, many people are being affected. It’s even made the local news.

Don't know. I was leery of the new meters too. The meter that got replaced was 14 years old at the time. Maybe the others' were considerably older and less accurate?

But make sure your thermostat and all your house is hooked up to the internet so you can play with your appliances with your smartphone when you're not working!

Well, my house isn’t 14 years old, so that’s out.
