The Cristero’s fight against the left

I recently finished watching a good flick on the Cristero War in Mexico entitled “For Greater Glory - The True Story of Cristeros,” about the war the Mexican locals had with the Mexican Government who was trying to wipe out religion in Mexico in the 1920’s and 30’s.
Some pretty barbaric garbage coming from Mexican President Plutarco Elías Calles, one who held to socialist ideals, and idealized the Soviet tactics in dealing with religion, and even used the government run schools to try and re-educate children and turn them against their own faith, and replacing such education with socialist education instead. He had priests shot, and even shot up people in church that defied the order to cease worship services.
Some 90k people died in this war, and some 4K priests killed or expelled, with countless innocent civilians killed as a result of his war on faith.
Some lessons to be taken from this IMO are that the left is a bloodthirsty group when their ideology takes on a secular religious fervor. This is proven over and over in history, and especially when freedom and liberty take a back seat to what the left thinks is in the best interests of “the greater good”
Food for thought as we enter a new chapter in America....

This sounds like something the American Left would love. I'm sure Pope Francis would love this as well.
quote:
The first two sections of article 3 state: I. According to the religious liberties established under article 24, educational services shall be secular and, therefore, free of any religious orientation. II. The educational services shall be based on scientific progress and shall fight against ignorance, ignorance's effects, servitudes, fanaticism and prejudice.[5] The second section of article 27 states that: All religious associations organized according to article 130 and its derived legislation, shall be authorized to acquire, possess or manage just the necessary assets to achieve their objectives.[5]
This sounds like something the American Left would love. I'm sure Pope Francis would love this as well.

What’s the problem? We’re just going to vote them out. We’re going to stand by while they destroy the country, telling ourselves we’re going to vote them out.

I think it's funny how the Left has convinced their acolytes that America is the most racist, evil country in history, and yet you find such ugly periods in vastly greater quantities in nearly every other country in the world.
And yes, the Left actually does devolve into homicidal maniacs. It is the only way.

Grace be with you all.

This is the great thing about “progressivism” all of the ideas are old and tired. Lol at young people who lap it up like so much milk from the tit of malcontented failures.

I believe that Graham Greene’s novel “The Power and the Glory” is set during this time and is about a priest’s ordeals in Mexico. It’s fiction. Read it years ago. Interesting read.

Those who don't remember history are condemned to repeat it, so why do you think so much effort is being made to erase the past?

No he wouldn’t. Francis would, but not Benedict. You are mixing up your popes.

The relationship between the Catholic Church and the Mexican government is an interesting story of shifting power and antagonism over the course of hundreds of years, and the Cristero War was certainly a low point in the relationship.
Few Americans know much about Mexican history, and this film is a good watch.
As an aside, Calles was not remotely a Socialist. He was a populist Constitutionalist. Yes, he had a strong, strong dislike for the Roman Catholic Church and its clerics, and he wanted to lessen its de facto control over Mexican civil life.

Yes! Excellent food for thought!
The United States of America would NEVER act in such a way to stamp out dissident religious fanatics who refuse to change their holy book, right?
Or would it?
