Buccees can pay that well because they run their stores with incredible detail and regulations and they get their money's worth out of each of those hours paid.

In an ideal world, this would be the rule and not the exception, but we don't live in an ideal world.

I imagine stores that are paying minimum wage lose money on each hour they're forced to overpay their employees, given the person they employ at that level.

This is why the redistribution-based policies of "bringing manufacturing back" will fail, too, mind you.

mandate a $20 an hour minimum wage and watch businesses close left and right. People don't seem to understand that if you did that at a small business, they fold. You also start looking at $20 mcdonalds meal deals. Inflation goes through the roof. No one has ever said that congress knows anything about or understands economics....and it shows.

I don't support raising the federal minimum wage to 20 an hour because it doesn't make sense in lower cost of living areas.

I wouldn't have a problem with it being indexed to inflation. If these old fossils get COLA adjustments for not working then why shouldn't we apply the same logic to those working and contributing to social security?

Many of these businesses are on very tight margins. Rasing your wages by 30 or 40% leads to one of two things. Either the prices of product go up 30 to 40%, or the business closes. Sadly, many progressives don't understand very basic economics.

Bucees would love a $20 minimum wage because they can afford it but exactly zero smaller gas stations they may compete with can.

Dude you can stop your "oh boy". I assure you I've forgotten more about economics than you'll ever know, and I work in that Industry. You are apparently one of those ignorant people as it relates to economics. Companies just don't swallow the losses from the increase in wages. They pass the cost along in price increases, which leads to inflation. Stay in your lane.
