Despite strong financials, Humana is laying off 800 employees in preparation for a 2.5% tax that is going into effect in 2020.

That tax was created as a condition of passage for the Affordable Care Act. Several taxes on different health care industry businesses were created as part of that legislation, to ensure Congress wouldn’t dip into the federal budget and increase the deficit.

Thanks again, Obama.

The tax was passed on to consumers. Obozo, the gift that keeps on giving.

The left won't mourn these job losses and can't equate personal hardship to an overreach of government. The only gnashing of teeth you'll hear is if the white guys in the C Suite in Louisville get a bonus this Christmas.

In fairness, Baraaq never promised that you could keep your job if you liked that.

This sucks !

One good thing , I'll bet some of the people being laid off actually voted for jug ears.

That's sweet justice !

Hmmm. This tax has been around since 2014, however, it was suspended for 2019. It was charged in 2014-2018, though.

For 2014-2018, the method of calculation was different than it is now.

It was probably responsible for creating the 800 jobs, leading to increased expenses for Humana which caused an increase in premiums.

Or they were folks who were working regular jobs they think are important and the unemployment will cause stress and hardship on their families.

I don’t know what you do for a job, but I’ll bet someone thinks it’s bullshite.

Again...this isn’t so much about Humana as it is the unfortunate employees.

This. I don't know of a single doctor here that takes that shite...and they still talk people into signing up for it and expect us to take their out of network fees which are only 60% of the 80% of medicare allowables that are already 40-50% of BCBS. Kiss my arse Humana. They and WellCare should be in jail for cold calling and selling people shitty arse insurance based on lies and false promises.
