Here's why- The type of bullet. Was it FMJ? Hollow Point? What was the grainage? Powder type and quality. A poorly powdered round with light grain, and a number of tip types would 110% explain the no exit wound.
I have a friend that shot a deer in the shoulder, broadside, with I a .308 loaded with a Federal bonded hollow point round. The deer dropped immediately, then got up and attempted to run off. He was able to get off another round and luckily shot it in the neck and killed it.
Upon cleaning it, he discovered that the first shot to the shoulder had completely destroyed the bullet and it either just penetrated the shoulder blade or didn’t at all. Either way, it did not fully penetrate the shoulder blade and into the vital organs (either lungs or heart) and would not have been a fatal shot.
Needless to say, he quit shooting those bullets.

Yeah, hollow points aren't designed to make that big blow they are talking about. They are meant to fragment and yaw on the inside to try to maximize damage on the inside. Kinda like .556

Damn good analysis and breakdown.

Damn good analysis and breakdown.
Penetration, weight retention and expansion are critical for good bullet performance.
That’s why I shoot nothing but Barnes Bullets.

Great. I guess taxi drivers are all mechanical engineers.
Dumbfrick.

Super jealous man. I would absolutely cream to get to go elk hunting. I watch a lot of videos on bullet dynamics and I guess you'd say terminal ballistics and do my own research when I have the ability to. shite is fascinating how advanced we are at ending life. I love it

"Kinda like 556". you talking ball or hollow point.

manufactured between 1898 and 1918. It was then re-calibered from the German Army caliber to 30.06
Did not know that - hmmmm
Who did the re-calibration? - if the bore was not precisely drilled for the 30-06 round that would be a problem - but if that were so, he would have had to practice a lot to be that accurate.
Anyone ever disclose the power of the round? - reloaded or factory ammo? - how much practice did the shooter have?
I believe the 'didn't go thru the neck' to be a factor that needs explanation that I haven't yet heard.

Ball but I mean still that depends on distance, speed, angle but typical NATO Green Tip

quote:Except they don’t. Apple and carp. You haven’t factored angle, distance, ammo plus you haven’t fired 1000 shots to confirm. Your info comes from zero deflection shots on a test range.
30 million rifle hunters and 5000 surgeons know the cinder block analogy is absolutely true
Every single trauma surgeon will tell you bullets do funny things.
I have lots of ways to make you look stupid here. Keep em coming.

quote:Lets test your analogy. You’re declaring either the shot came on plane, or below plane to deflect 90 degrees or more.
Never said they don't deflect. They just don't deflect 90+ degrees. They don't explode when they hit a small bone like a vertebrae.
So was the shooter level with Charlie or below him? Because that’s the only way you get 90+ degree deflection.

Thanks most of these guys I’ve noticed are allergic to math.

It’s out there, will take a little work though. Decisions, decisions. Do I give them a hint…

quote:I don't know about the shooters weapon. I do know that my 30-06 is dead on at 25 yards a couple inches high at 100 and drops back in the bulls eye around 200. Believe the shooter was 150 or so yards away, above and kirk was sitting down. If Kirk was leaning back a little, the bullet would have to have bounced off the spine at close to 80-90 degrees to stay in the body.
Lets test your analogy. You’re declaring either the shot came on plane, or below plane to deflect 90 degrees or more.
At little above 90 or a little below 90, that's still a big deflection off a relatively small back bone.
