That money is burning a hole in Jon Bell's pocket

and he wants to spend more, but rascally Republicans won't go along with new budget numbers.
After cutting TOPS once and threatening to cut TOPS again , universities and the old folks; JBE got his second tax hike.
Now just six months later, he's projecting a nice surplus that he wants to give the sheriffs for state prisoners and for teacher pay raises down the road.
I thought we were letting prisoners loose to save mega bucks, but I guess I was wrong. 43 million more needs to go to lock people up.
It's amazing how fast people forget. We have been in crisis mode since JBE took over. LSU was crumbling, folks weren't being taken care of, we have an insurmountable back log in roads, and even the State Capital is falling down becsuse we have no maintenance money.
But now JBE says we have a tidy surplus now and expects an even bigger surplus next year, but instead of taking care of the problems we all heard about in the spring, he wants to help his sheriff buddies and the teacher unions.
I hope the rascals hold the line until we actually see a surplus and then we see the surplus go to the rainy day fund or to one time expenses.

Giving teachers a raise is wrong?

Giving raises when you can't afford it is wrong.
Giving raises to substandard teachers is wrong.
Giving tax credits to movies and not raised to qualified teachers is wrong.
Setting rules to benefit nursing home owners at the expense of quality teachers is wrong.

John Bel Edwards is everything I hate about the typical Louisiana politician.
Corrupt with how he hands out lawsuits for his pals to make money off of.
Anti-Business with all of the red tape he constantly puts out.
Screaming for more taxes that hurts the middle class and the poor.
Growing government at the expense of the private sector and taxpayers.
Refuses to do anything about the glut in higher education and the failing schools.
October can't get here soon enough.

Is there anyone I can really be hopeful about having a legitimate chance to unseat him and do much better for us?
State is a fricking mess.

I think either Republican beats him. He won in a crazy circumstance last time b/c Republicans punished themselves for Vitter's personal indiscretions by buying into the "Honor Code" bullshite. Not to mention the other 2 GOP guys in the race stabbed the rest of us in the back. I don't think turtle head can pull in over 48% of the vote.
Will the next Governor do better ? Well he has to change the business climate and not let the RINOS in the State Legislature do business as usual.

The only way JBE will 100% no shite be reelected is a crabs in a bucket scenario.
IE a bunch of republicans run beat each other up and according to LA Politics.com, John Fleming from up north is thinking about getting into the race and I'm hoping people convince him to back off as more will get in if he does. He should stick to his current job in the Trump admin.
It's Louisiana and a conservative state that has elected republicans statewide since JBE won for senate, state treasurer and SoS, JBE will not be able to sneak into the runoff this time around.
The two republicans in Ralph Abraham and Eddie Rispone are fine candidates that really do not have any glaring weakness like Vitter had that enabled Dardenne and Angelle to bring him down a notch.

Good news this year is that a lot of them are being term limited out and we can thank David Vitter for that and god bless him.
The state senate will definitely get a lot more conservative without Alario for one example.
But we're also losing a hell of a guy in Conrad Appel so there's that.

Well said. The "Honor Code" won't work this time out. He's shown himself to be the tax and spend trial lawyer that encourages his scumbag attorney friends to fleece the oil and gas industry. I don't know what he will run on this time ? He will have his usual base but the crossovers that bought into his bullshite have seen what he really is.

I think y'all may be underestimating how complacent voters in this state have gotten.
I genuinely hope I'm wrong and you're right, though, but I'm pretty pessimistic.
