Yes. The United States will defend its ownership of all federal property in that instance. To the inch.

I feel like you haven't read up on how the Civil War started if you have this question.

Texas (in this hypo) would have zero right to anything owned, built, supported, or maintained by the federal government or with federal dollars. Which by the way would include all assets of the Texas National Guard as well as all US Army, Navy, AF assets as well.

Holy shite. There’s a whole lot of California projection in this bot’s 44th post

The good news is that I am an American first, a Californian second. If there was a referendum to leave the Union in the Golden State, I would vote no on leaving with patriotic pride. The nation's health comes first.

California. Don't bother trying to use that against me. I have an America first, state second mentality. So whatever "California vs. Taxes" rhetoric you have there, it would barely affect the discussion.

No, not at all. I was just going to tell you to STFU about things that don’t concern you. Those of us that live here will decide what we’re going to do without any input from you.

So are we still requiring Austin to become and independent city-state? Can we pull in Lafayette to the gulf?

...Also and thinking about this critically, the election was pretty darn close: 52% to 46.5%

Didn't realize it until I just looked but Trump lost convincingly in Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and El Paso. Do we leave but not include the Valley or any of our big cities? Could make sense.

Do we really think the majority of the state would go along with this?

Serious question: Has it been addressed in this movement what to do with people who would immediately want to join/move to Texas?

Texas will need a navy, so Louisiana baws will be welcomed

Tough. The United States is a thoroughly connected federation. Meaning instability in Texas can affect the nation negatively. It is a very impressive state possessing a capable population and economy.

Meh. The businesses could all just go to other states and be fine. No need for Texas.

This is something that most Americans who are not Texans simply do not grasp.

Most of you are Americans who happen to live in (insert state).

Most of US (at least those of us with a Texas lineage) are TEXANS, who happen to be Americans because Texas is currently part of the USA. This concept is foreign to you. We understand that.

Oh, so a relatively small portion of Texas' current population. Unless we are considering everyone born in Texas to be a Texan and have "Texas lineage". Where is that absurd line drawn, after all?

Yeah, don’t care what someone in California thinks. You may as well be in Germany.

Perhaps.

Finding the answer to THAT question is the reason for holding the referendum.

Explain this to me like I’m five, please? What are the individual steps that Texas would have to take in order for this to work.

Step 1: Seek and obtain sponsorship for bill from Texas legislator [Kyle Biedermann (Fredericksburg)]

Step 2: File bill in Texas legislative session [January 26, 2021]

"A referendum is to be held on whether Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation or remain a member of the United States."

>> WE ARE HERE <<

Step 3: Pass legislation though the House

Step 4: Pass legislation through the Senate

Step 5: Governor's signature

** The referendum shall be held on the next regularly scheduled general election date after the passage of this act and any subsequent general elections dates as called by the Governor, a 2/3rds vote of the Texas Legislature or upon the submission of a petition of Texas voters in accordance with chapter 172 of the Texas Election Code (the day appointed under subsection (2) must be no later than 31 December of same year) **

Step 6: People of Texas vote [November, unless a special election is called]

The question that is to appear on the ballot is—

“Should the State of Texas reassert its status as an independent nation?”

The alternative answers to that question that are to appear on the ballot are—

“Yes” and “No.”

** Bill passes with 50% +1 of those who cast a vote **

DUTY TO PUBLISH INFORMATION ON OUTCOME OF PREVIOUS EFFORTS TO REFORM THE FEDERAL UNION AND ASSERT TEXAS SOVEREIGNTY

(1)The Secretary of State must publish a report which contains (alone or with other material)—

(a) a statement which details previous efforts by the State of Texas to initiate reform in the relationship between the State of Texas and the Federal union as well as efforts to retain or reassert the sovereignty of the State of Texas, and

(b) the opinion of the Secretary of State on the success of those efforts.

(2) The report must be published no later than 10 weeks before the scheduled referendum date.

(3) A copy of the report published under this section must be submitted to the Legislature of the State of Texas, the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Texas Congressional delegation, and the President of the United States.

DUTY TO PUBLISH INFORMATION ABOUT TEXAS MEMBERSHIP IN THE UNITED STATES

(1)The Secretary of State must publish a report which contains (alone or with other material)—

(a) information about rights and obligations of the State of Texas and its citizens that arise under Federal law as a result of Texas membership in the United States, and

(b) examples of countries that are not part of the United States but do have other arrangements and agreements with the United States (describing, in the case of each country given as an example, those arrangements).

(2) The report must be published no later than 10 weeks before the scheduled referendum date.

(3) A copy of the report published under this section must be submitted to the Legislature of the State of Texas, the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Texas Congressional delegation, and the President of the United States.

RESULTS

(1) The results of the referendum shall be reported first and foremost to the citizens of Texas, to both houses of the United States Congress and to the President of the United States by the Governor of the State of Texas.

(2) Should the vote of the citizens result in a YES decision for Texas independence, the Texas Legislature shall, within twelve calendar months following the referendum, craft an Ordinance for Texas Independence defining and outlining a plan to implement the decision of the referendum, to include an operational plan, to establish Texas as an independent republic.

Step 7: Referendum passes; whiskey for my men and beer for my horses

Ignoring that as soon as Texans ousted Mexico, they begged to be brought in to the US.

I think you are misunderstanding my post. My comment was saying that a relative small percentage of TX's population has "Texas lineage" unless said lineage simply includes everyone born in Texas.

And how many of the 165,000 Texans who serve in the military are going to kill their mother, fathers, brothers, and sisters?
