Lawmakers return to Austin today for the start of the 87th legislative session—a largely ceremonial day that typically features extended guest lists for elected officials and crowded hallways at the Capitol.

But things will look different this year as lawmakers will be required to wear masks, keep social distant, and submit to coronavirus tests while meeting for the first time as a legislative body during the pandemic.

There isn't much on the agenda Tuesday, but House members are expected to select a new leader. Republican Rep. Dade Phelan of Beaumont previously announced that he has secured enough support from his colleagues in the chamber to be elected House speaker.

Live video feeds will be available from the Texas House and the Texas Senate.

Here are the top 10 issues lawmakers will contend with once the session gets underway:

Issue No. 10: Confederate memorials

Issue No. 9: Public education

Issue No. 8: Marijuana

Issue No. 7: Policing reforms

Issue No. 6: Healthcare reform

Issue No. 5: Election law

Issue No. 4: Abortion

Issue No. 3: Austin police cuts

Issue No. 2: Redistricting

Issue No. 1: Coronavirus pandemic

Has never been discussed in the Lege.
Must be brought to the floor before anything along the line of a debate will ever take place.

The republicans have already bent the knee again and are allowing the nazi party to lead some of the committees.

If this isnt corrected properly TX will be blue sooner than should be, and all the TEXIT stuff will be pointless.

A full review of all county election admin offices, and machines need to be done. Looking at you Tarrant County.

Something to respond to biden stopping the border wall bldg needs to be addressed too.

Ohhhhh and money towards a "Welcome to TX... assimilate, and leave your bad habits where you came from" PSA.

Something to tell companies that are going after TX citizens for political reasons needs to be against the law. I heard an ISP in Idaho cut FB and others due to compliants. These tech companies can get be hurt, so state govt needs to step up somehow.

Ohhh and make a law that prevent companies from firing/targeting employees based on political purposes. Hate to say it's needed, but definetly needed.
