It took a five year legal battle to do it ... but as of yesterday, Texas taxpayers are no longer on the hook for financing Planned Parenthood through the state Medicaid program.

The Texas Office of the Inspector General (OIG) found Planned Parenthood violated federal regulations when it altered abortion procedures to harvest baby body parts; so the OIG terminated Planned Parenthood’s provider contract.

Houston has the largest Planned Parenthood abortion center in the United States. Planned Parenthood facilities in Texas receive about $3.1 million in taxpayer funding from Medicaid annually. An estimated 8,000 Texans use its facilities every year in the state. So, this is a substantial victory for the state.

After a five-year legal battle between Texas and Planned Parenthood, the state's November court victory allowing it to cease funding the abortion giant through Medicaid went into effect on Wednesday.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the state after the Texas Office of the Inspector General (OIG) learned that Planned Parenthood violated federal regulations when it altered abortion procedures to harvest baby body parts.

Planned Parenthood facilities in Texas received about $3.1 million in taxpayer funding from Medicaid annually, and the abortion organization argued that eliminating the funding would hurt Texas women seeking basic health care. Abortion remains a billion-dollar industry for Planned Parenthood nationwide.

The organization's last annual report showed that it received $616.8 million in government funding nationally, with about 90% of that coming from Medicaid. Medicaid funds, however, do not pay for abortions directly. Rather, Medicaid funds Planned Parenthood's abortion business indirectly.

I watched a video of Ben Shapiro discussing abortion with an audience of college students. He criticized govt funding of Planned Parenthood. A girl rose to argue and said 'PP doesn't do abortions. They assist with birth control.'

Amazingly, Shapiro kept his wits and explained stuff to her politely. I would have said 'Miss, how did you get into college?'

Abortion is a billion-dollar industry for Planned Parenthood nationwide. According to its last annual report, it received $616.8 million in government funding nationally, approximately 90 percent of which came from Medicaid. The industry preys on low-income and uninsured women.

Yes, but they are feeding P.R. to college students that they just help women with birth control and today's college students apparently aren't as bright as I assumed.

My appreciation for Hispanics has skyrocketed since moving to Texas. Great people. If they continue to hold the same values and pass them along to their kids, they will really be thriving once they overcome first generation poverty. They are even pretty damn good at being productive members of society while being low income.

i work all over the state and my hispanic customers in the valley are my absolute favorite. humble, hardworking, funny, and mostly conservative.

i will say that there are different subsets of hispanic culture in Texas. El Paso hispanic culture is very different than Laredo/McAllen/Brownsville hispanic culture.

There shouldn't be one red cent of taxpayer funding going to Planned Parenthood... period. Anywhere. In fact, if planned parenthood ceased to exist, I wouldn't care even a little bit.

Hispanics as a whole are becoming more and more conservative with each election cycle. If a new party really does develop, its survival depends upon whether or not they appeal to Hispanics. If they leave Hispanics behind then it's dead on arrival.

She was an idiot.

Of course, those who insist that PP does nothing BUT abortions are idiots to an equal degree.

What procedures generate the bulk of their revenue?

They may claim to take care of all aspects of a woman's health, but make no mistake... their bread and butter is abortions.

Hell, they don't even have have mammogram machines.

They are abortion providers. Period. Anything else is just window dressing to make them seem more palatable to the masses.
